Texas Senate Bill 19 (SB 19) Results • A 2009 study based on interviews with 169 principals, assistant principals, nurses, PE teachers, faculty and counselors found that after implementation of SB 19: • Students had an average of 179 minutes of structured student physical activity per week (which exceeds the 135 minutes required by SB 19) • 97% of those polled were aware of daily or weekly physical activity requirements • 69% of districts issued a PE policy statement regarding PE requirements Kelder S, Springer A, Barroso C et al. “Implementation of Texas Senate Bill 19 to Increase Physical Activity in Elementary Schools.” Journal of Public Health Policy 30(S1): S221-S247, January 2009.
