  1. Result of first test run ofCLIO T Akutsu1, S Telada2, T Uchiyama1, S Miyoki1, K Yamamoto1, M Ohashi1, K Kuroda1, N Kanda3 and CLIO Collaboration. 1 ICRR, Univ. of Tokyo, 2AIST, 3 OCU and CLIO Collaboration Dec 18 2006 11th GWDAW, Potsdam, Germany

  2. Contents • Cryogenic Laser Interferometer Observatory • First test run • Influence of cryocooler • Summary

  3. Construction started from 2003 spring. 1. Cryogenic Laser Interferometer Observatory (CLIO) Where is CLIO? Kamioka 220km Tokyo (NAOJ)

  4. 1. Cryogenic Laser Interferometer Observatory (CLIO) Motivation of CLIO : Proto-Type for LCGT 1. Reduction of thermal noise limiting sensitivity is targeted using sapphire mirrors and sapphire suspension fibers. - Cooled sapphire mirrors around 20K 2. Stable operation is expected owing to the low seismic noise of KAMOIKA mine. - Seismic noise at the Kamioka mine is 1/100 lower than that at acity area. CLIO operation using cryogenic mirrors was done Apr.2006 ! Now CLIO is operated at room temperature for noise hunting.

  5. 1. Cryogenic Laser Interferometer Observatory (CLIO) Current best sensitivity Dec.13 2006 Operation at room temperature Observable range (S/N=10) Sensitivity Observable range Frequency Calculation by T.Uchiyama and K.Yamamoto

  7. Motivation of CLIO Cryostat tank Heat link • Stable operation is expected owing to the low seismic noise of KAMOIKA mine. Optical bench for PD Cryocooler Radiation shield 4Kcold head 2. First test run for Data Taking Cryocoolers Vibrations, Acoustic noise In the future, we would like to evaluate the data both, at 20K and at room temperature.

First test run for Data Taking Cryocoolers (ultra low vibration type) Vibrations, Acoustic noise How does a cryocooler have influence on the feed back signal ? A PD is near a cryostat tank

  9. Nov.20 2006 1.7 hours Nov.21 2006 5.3 hours Configuration at the present BOLFUR suspension wires No heat link Room temperature 2. First test run for Data Taking First Data Taking • Without alignment control • Consecutive lock Sensitivity at data taking Observable range (S/N=10) 49kpc at best sensitivity Calculation by T.Uchiyama and K.Yamamoto Data taken on Nov.20 2006 was used in this work

  10. 3. Contamination of cryocooler Influence on noise level Fluctuation of sensitivity Histogram of fluctuation Apparently, itseems that acoustic noise does not influence the data so much.

  11. 3. Contamination of cryocooler Influence on burst-like noise In order to search the effect of burst-like noise, we used a slope filter (P.R.D63 042002). Time of analyzed data • Switch off 39 min. • Switch on 15 min. Evaluation of hrss : A&A393 523 (2002) No remarkable difference between on and off of the refrigerator.

  13. 3. Contamination of cryocooler Do cryocooler really have any influence for the data? Histogram for observable distance mean std Switch off 34.22kpc 2.27 Switch on 32.38kpc 2.48 Cryocoolers have an affect on the data. PDs and its beam guiding optics will be installed in a vacuum tank in January 2007! Acoustic influence would be much reduced.

  14. Summary • CLIO Demonstration of the cryogenic operation was done Apr. 2006. Present operation is at room temperature for noise hunting. • Data Taking First test run was implemented on Nov. 20-21 2006. • Contamination of cryocooler - No remarkable influence as for burst noise. - A little influence for floor level by observable range. - More complete countermeasures for acoustic noise will be prepared. Next schedule Next data taking is planned on Jan. 2007 after some acoustic countermeasures.

  15. 1/100 -1/1000 Appendix Seismic noise level at Kamioka site and Mitaka site

  16. Appendix • Difference between the seismic noise on the surface and in the ground of the isolated area is distinguishing above 1 Hz. • Stable operation without alignment control is demonstrated for ?? hours. • (Normally, GWDs on the ground without alignment control is impossible.)

  17. 1st Targeted Displacement Noise Laser power : 200mW for one arm Mirror Mass : 1.8 kg Thermal Noises limit the sensitivity around 100Hz, and they will be reduced after cooling.

  18. Low Vibration Refrigerator- outlook -

  19. Ultra-Low Vibration Refrigerator- vibration reduction performance - Vibration of the 4K vibration reduction stage in time. Vibration on the 300K stage in the Cryostat in the KAMIOKA mine X-axis Y-axis Z-axis The values show mainly the operation frequency vibration.
