HARD&SOFT Suceava 2018 The 25 th Edition of Hard and Soft

Participate in HARD&SOFT Suceava 2018 by designing a remote weather station with no moving parts. Use the ESP32 development system, BME280 weather sensors chip, and extensive sensors kit. The station should be battery-powered and solar-charged, with a web-based base station and an Android app for smartphones. The design should focus on wireless data transfer, power system efficiency, data display, and user-friendly interface.

  1. HARD&SOFT Suceava 2018 The 25th Edition of Hard and Soft

  2. HARD&SOFTSuceava 2018 ReWeS – NMP Remote Weather Station with no moving parts

  3. HARD&SOFTSuceava 2018 ReWeS ReWeS Battery powered, solar charged wireless Weather Station for remote locations. Web based base station Android App for smart phone.

  4. HARD&SOFTSuceava 2018 ReWeS What are we giving you?

  5. HARD&SOFTSuceava 2018 ReWeS ESP32 development system BME280 weather sensors chip Extensive sensors kit GMS module and SIM card Solar panel & Lithium-ion battery ………. Your design must be based on the ESP32

  6. HARD&SOFTSuceava 2018 ReWeS You may use any open source software, development systems, libraries…. You have brought an Android smart phone or tablet. You can use your own laptops etc. Other components may be available from the Technical Assistance Office – ask. You may use your own components in a minor role in your design, if in doubt ask the Jury.

  7. ReWeS HARD&SOFTSuceava 2018 The Jury will judge your work at two main assessments Tuesday Evening: Demo of your basic system Friday late am and pm: Final judging and public fair Additional assessments: Informal visit to your lab on Wednesday afternoon. A brief design document, initially submitted to the Jury by 10:00 Tuesday and updated and resubmitted by 9:00 on Friday More details will be sent to each team by email.

  8. HARD&SOFTSuceava 2018 ReWeS Point you should pay attention to in your design: Remote location Secure and efficient wireless data transfer Power system design Base station data display and data archiving User friendly Android App

  9. HARD&SOFTSuceava 2018 ReWeS Wireless data: The Jury is aware that there are radio based systems for long distance low density data transfer, these are beyond the scope of the contest. We expect a data transfer regime that switches between Bluetooth, WiFi, GMS as appropriate

  10. HARD&SOFTSuceava 2018 ReWeS No Moving Parts Conventional weather stations measure wind speed and direction and rainfall by techniques that involve moving parts. A key feature of your task is to devise techniques that do not have moving parts.

  11. HARD&SOFTSuceava 2018 ReWeS Extras: The Jury expect teams to extend their design to include additional features, for example: derived quantities such as wind chill, cloud base… data formatted for specialist users, farmers, winter sports enthusiasts…… additional sensors, sunlight, cloud cover….. Adaption for extreme environments……….

  12. HARD&SOFTSuceava 2018 ReWeS Tuesday evening: Each team will make a demonstration of their Basic System, ESP32, BME280, Android APP showing current temp, humidity and barometric pressure One member of each team is invited to attend, coaches and advisors are welcome Friday final Judging and Public fair.
