  4. John lived in Cleveland • He retired in 1964, shortly after the Erie-Lackawanna merger. • He had a bell from an Erie Berkshire mounted on a concrete pedestal in the backyard of his Pompano Beach, FL retirement home. • It generally was rung about 2 AM when everybody was drunked up and decided to go home!

  5. Chronology • John was born October 17, 1910 • He retired from the Erie-Lackawanna in 1964 at age 54. • He passed away April 1, 1981.

  6. Chronology • My parents lived next door to him in retirement. • He gave his negative and photo collection to me. • Many of his photos appeared in the book Erie Power by Alvin Stauffer.

  7. This was shot somewhere in Ohio. I think he said it was Cold Spring, wherever that is. John didn’t write on the backs of his prints or on the negative sleeves. Your guess is as good as any.
