  2. HERA Hera’s Role on Mount Olympus • She is the Queen of the Gods • Married to Zeus but is also his sister • She is the Goddess of women, marriage, and childbirth • Also known to be the Goddess of the starry heavens and the sky • Her name translates to, the Great Lady

  3. HERA Hera’s Most Prominent Qualities • The cow and the peacock are her sacred animals • Argos is her favorite city • Her parents were Cronos and Rhea who were Titans • In Roman she was called Juno • Was considered revengeful and jealous especially on Zeus’s children but she also has another more soft side to her

HERA How Hera affected the Greeks and their view on the World • They worshipped her as the Queen of the Gods • She was their main symbol of women and children and how important they were for men • Reminds them that there is both light and dark in everyone • She represents the fullness of life and shows that you can use your own wisdom for any goal you choose

HERA How she is apart of modern culture • She can be found in modern day art like the painting The Milky Way • Hera is the name of a feminine perfume • June is the well known month to get married • Some people say mother’s day is her holiday • Hera Women’s Cancer Foundation • Gruppo Hera is a company that helps the environment

  7. APOLLO Background Info on Apollo • Apollo is the son of Zeus and Leto • Zeus’s wife, Hera, found out that he had an affair with Leto. Hera was angry so Leto needed to find a safe place to give birth. Leto knew that there weren’t many places that she could give birth to Apollo and his twin Artemis, but she finally gave birth to him on the island, Delos.

  8. APOLLO Apollo’s Most Prominent Qualities • Apollo was the god of poetry, prophecy, music, light, truth, and medicine. • He was the god of music because he played his lyre very often. He would have contests with others to prove that he played the lyre the best

  9. APOLLO Apollo’s Role on Mt. Olympus • One of Apollo’s daily tasks was to ride in his golden chariot and drive the sun across the sky • Apollo was very respected by Zeus, so Zeus gave Apollo the power to know the future • Apollo killed a female dragon that was sacred to Gaea, and as punishment he was banned from Mount Olympus and forced to live on Earth for nine years

APOLLO How Apollo affected how the Greeks viewed the world • Apollo was known as “the most Greek of all gods.” • He was a direct link between the gods and men; he guided them to know their divine will. • Apollo had he power to cleanse men, no matter what they had done. • Apollo showed men how to make peace with the gods and taught men the art of healing

APOLLO How Apollo was apart of modern culture • Apollo Flame Bistro and Pizza is a Greek restaurant located in Asheville, North Carolina • NASA called their missions to the moon “Project Apollo” because of Apollo’s attractive connotation • Apollo’s chariot is a rollercoaster ride in Bush Gardens. The ride is meant to be like Apollo, travelling fast while driving the sun across the sky • Apollo’s House of Pizza in Spartanburg, South Carolina is named after Apollo because the owners believe that he allows them to provide their customers with the tastiest ingredients

Demeter Demeter’s most prominent qualities • Goddess of the harvest (flowers, crops, and more) • Presided over sacred law and the cycle of life and death • Was depressed a lot because her daughter, Persephone, was in the underworld • Very quiet and calm • Cares very much for animals and is considered vulnerable • Peaceful and willing to help almost anyone in need

  14. Demeter Her role on Mt. Olympus • She was not one of the God’s on Mt. Olympus • She spent all of her time down on Earth

Demeter How she affected the Greeks • She brought farming to the Greeks • She was partially an animal goddess and huntress guardian • Her and the God Dionysus were the two most relatable of the Gods for the Greeks • Dionysus and Demeter both knew sadness and therefore the Greeks found themselves able to connect more with them
