  3. HOMELESSNESS AND HEALTH CONFERENCE • Calgary Study 2016 • 245 participants • 2/3 had worked for less than 5 years in the sector. • 36% of staff had symptoms of PTSD significant enough that would likely lead to a diagnosis of PTSD

HOMELESSNESS AND HEALTH CONFERENCE Stress effects your brain! • Cortisol=increased size of amygdala (which pairs emotional events with feelings) Raised cortisol increases negative emotions, fear, anxiety and aggression. Increased stress levels also reduce the size of the hippocampus which decreases our capacity for learning, our memory and our ability to regulate emotions
