  2. picasaweb.google.com Introduction to Learning Lands – Vernal Pools • On Wednesday, October 13th – we took a hike out to see our 1st vernal pool. Here’s what I saw: • water mark/line on a rock • sticks and leaves on the ground • trees in the middle of the vernal pool • no water • in valley, at bottom of hill • lots of moss and mud • Here’s what I learned about vernal pools: • No fish live in a vernal pool • Amphibians (frogs) and reptiles (turtles) lay eggs so no animal will eat their eggs. • Animals drink and bathe in VP's • There since the glaciers (very OLD) • only fill with water in the spring or when there is heavy rains • There is no outlet for the water (not like a brook, stream, river)
