  2. Drives, Folders and Files • drive letters served as logical pointers to the different physical drives you have access to. • From each drive letter it is possible to access all of your files stored on that particular physical drive.

  3. File type • Temporary files: These files, as the name implies, are normally created as temporary files which are deleted after use. Both Windows and application programs can create temporary files which are used to store information on a temporary basis and which are deleted when they are no longer used. If the computer crashes you may find that some files which were meant to be temporary are present as they were not automatically deleted

  4. Customising the Desktop background wallpaper picture • Click on the Desktop Background button

  5. You will see the following dialog box displayed

  6. Gadgets, Calendars and Systems Tools • Rights click on an empty part of the Windows Desktop and from the pop-up menus displayed, select the Gadgets command.

  8. Gadgets • A window will be displayed containing the gadgets available on your computer. Available gadgets may vary from one computer to another

  9. Selecting a gadgets • Select the gadget you wish to open, such as the Clock and then double click on the selected gadget. In this case the Clock gadget is illustrated. If you move the mouse pointer over a gadget you will see extra controls displayed to the top-right of the gadget. These controls normally include a close icon and an option icon for customising the gadget.

  10. To customise a gadget • Move the mouse pointer over the gadget and click on the options icon, displayed to the top-right of most gadgets.

  11. To customise a gadget • You can also give the clock a name, such as a different country. • You can set a time zone. • Finally you can opt to display a „second hand‟. • Once you have finished customising the clock, click on the OK button

  12. To close a gadget • Move the mouse pointer over the gadget and click on the close icon, displayed to the top-right of each gadget

  13. Calendars • Calendars can be located on the bottom right hand corner of the desktop. You may change date and time setting by clicking on ”Change date and time settings...”

  14. Change date • You may further change date/time/time zone settings by clicking on “Change date and time...” or Change time zone…” You may need to change these settings pertaining to different countries and time zones.
