GENERAL ISSUES Short history Location: on North-East industrial platform of Cluj Napoca Before 1970 – private agricultural land since 1970 the land is state owner 1970 - Production of sanitary ware has started 1971 – Production of wall and floor tiles has started Between 1994 -1997 wall and floor tiles installations were automatized 2004 - Ceased the production of sanitary ware

  4. General Data • Total area – 18 Hectares • Constructed area- 10.2 Hectares • No. of employees: ~ 800 • Production activity undergoing 24 hours/day

  5. OWNERS • 1972-1995 – state owner • 1995- 2000 - privatization process • 2000- Entirely private, Dutch company “Goodison holding” was the major share holder • Since 2004 – Goodison have been achieved by the actual major share holder LASSELSBERGER holding

Products • Wall tiles – since 1971, 2 lines • Floor- tiles 1971, 3 lines • Sanitary ware – 1 sections production activity between 1970 -2004 • Refractary section – 1976 -1998 → OS2 • Ceramic Frites – 1 installation -production activity between 1976 -2000 • Ceramic pigments and collorant – 1 installation – production activity between 1975 -2000

  7. Environmental department • 3 persons • Subordinated directly to Sanex production manager

  8. Management systems • Quality Management was Certified (ISO 9001) on January 2005 • Started the process of EMAS - ISO 14001- preliminary evaluation completed

  9. Waste water treatment facilities • 20 decantation systems belonging to installations • 1 collector decantation system • 1 radial collector decantation system water is recycled 20% • Extra treated water is discharged into the municipal sewerage

Environmental License • License no. 700/2002 has expired on July 2005 • On March 2004 the company has started the process of getting an IPPC License, requesting to Regional EPA Cluj the specific local environmental conditions and the list with certified companies/persons for environmental audits • On June 2005 SANEX registered to Regional EPA Cluj the official request and the documentation and preliminary analysis accepted it, but EPA had requested environmental audit level II • At the present environmental audit level II is undergoing, with a certified company. • No additional transition period was requested. Deadline for IPPC conformation is October 2007.

  16. Waste self monitoring • According to European Waste Catalogue MAIN Categories ( year 2004) Wall and floor tiles scraps ~ 4000 tones Sludge: ~2200 tones Packaging waste (plastic, cardboard, wood 240 tones- ~ 95% collected and sold to specialized companies

  17. Re-use of process waste water • BAT – minimum 50% SANEX • 2004 - 7.5 % • 2005 – 20.5 %
