  1. MY ENVIORNMENT JAILENE wESTMORELAND

  2. How Lancaster County was founded • I live in New Holland • Before Lancaster their were three counties already formed which were Chester, Bucks and Philadelphia. Lancaster County is known as the “western county”. • It was originated around the year 1728

  3. 3 things I like and dislike about New Holland • I live in New Holland and the things I like about it which aren’t many are that they have good schools and some good staff. Also that I live near the park, pool, school and grocery stores so its convenient. The last thing I like is that it’s pretty safe for my family compared to other places in Pennsylvania • I don’t like a lot of things about New Holland but the main three would be that there’s not a lot of people compared to cities like Philly and Coatesville. Another thing I don’t like is that it is really quiet and there is not much to do around here. The last thing I don’t like is that its really split up. So if I want to see certain people that go to my school I or they may have to travel 45 minutes.

  4. Community • Common mammals: horses, white tailed deer, • Common Birds: bald eagles, red hawks, robins • Common Plants: oak trees, corn, • Energy Sources: solar panels are used in certain parts • Weather patterns: The weather kind of goes with the seasons. Although in winter we don’t get a lot of snow. It seem that it rains when transitioning to different seasons. It usually doesn’t get too cold, lowest around • Environmental Problems: Farmers use pesticides and that gets into the ground and can go into the air and cause pollution • Fact 1. The last count of a passenger pigeon was in 1910 in Lancaster County • Fact 2. With Amish there is a lot of cruelty going on.

  5. Home & Life - My water comes from the city borough as well as our sewage. The water is coming from the water towers around New Holland. Water towers usually get their water from wells - My landlord has us put our trash in the dumpster next to our house and he pays people to come pick it up every week - We don’t recycle in my house

  6. 5 foods and 3 habitats • Pancakes, originating from Greece. The first record of pancakes was a Cratinus, a poet who described them and one of his poems. • Potatoes, were introduced by Spanish settlers coming to Europe. • Empanadas, the Spanish brought them to Latin America, places like Mexico and Argentina have cafes just for them. • Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream- originated in Burlington, Vermont 30 years ago by two men; Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield. • 3 habitats that are around me are a dumpster which usually hold maggots and flies which we would contribute to because we put our trash in there. A beehive is on our front porch and we try to kill it so we don’t necessarily contribute in a good way. Another habitat that is surrounding me is the new Holland Park. I helped paint the hockey rink and my neighbor’s family and I put up a new net on the hoop.

  7. What I do in my environment • I’m not really environmental friendly. I don’t think about how the things I do will effect things in the long run. Although whenever I have paper in school I make sure I put it into the recycling bin but that’s really the only time. I’m also very wasteful with electricity. I’ll do things like leave the house with the T.V and the lights on and not really thing. I’ll just have to be more conscious of what I’m doing.

  8. Picture of my Environment Garden Spot High School is a part of all of our environments really. It’s where we go to school, also it combines all the towns together. This is a map of Eastern Pennsylvania. Lancaster County is projected at the bottom of the picture
