  3. Activities Activities Hi! I am Lars • The children will make predictions about the book from the cover. • We will read the book Little Polar Bear by Hans de Beer. • After the story the children will name the animals the polar bear met and predict if they could survive in the Arctic. • The children will observe a map to discover how far Lars traveled from the Arctic to the Tropics.

  6. Activities Activities • The children will brainstorm how polar bears survive cold weather and icy water. • The children will draw pictures of clothing they wear to keep warm. • Each child will share an idea of clothing that keeps them warm for the pie chart.

  8. Experiment Experiment • The teacher will demonstrate making a blubber glove. • Measure one cup of Crisco. Fill ziploc bag with cup of Crisco. • Use a second ziploc bag to place around outside of ziploc bag with Crisco in it. Materials

  9. Cooperative Groups Cooperative Groups The students will work in cooperative groups to make blubber gloves. The teacher will place a bowl of icy water on the table. The students will measure the temperature of the water with a thermometer. The students immerse their left hand in icy water. The students will place right hand in blubber glove and immerse in icy water.
