  1. Tropical Rainforest Created by: Nick Galbraith

  2. Global location and Climate Conditions • The rainforest is located in Brazil • 60% of the rainforest is in Brazil • Rarely colder than 77 degrees Fahrenheit • Rarely hotter than 90 degrees Fahrenheit • Winter temperatures only 3-4 degrees colder than summer

  3. Brazilian Rainforest Flora • There are over 55,000 different species of plants in this rainforest • Some plants such as the Venus fly trap has adapted to eat animal matter • Epiphytes are plants that have roots that dangle from the air instead of in the ground • Some trees have adapted to have buttress roots which are about 15 feet above the ground • Bromeliads are plants that have adapted to have a wide open “mouth” to catch rain water in

  4. Brazilian Rainforest Fauna • In the rainforest there are 3000 species of freshwater fish • 520 mammal species • 1622 bird species • 468 reptile species • One adaptation is leafcutter ants climb trees to get leaves, which then they put their saliva on it and it creates fungus, which they eat • The three toed sloth has green algae that grows on it to camouflage it and its extreme slowness makes predators unable to see it • Other animals such as frogs are very bright colored which warns predators that it is poisonous

  5. Value of the Rainforest • The value of this biome is it has 75% of all species in the world • This is important because without this biome these species wouldn’t exist • Less than 1 percent of the worlds tropical forest plants have been tested for medicine, yet a quarter of all modern medicines came originally from rainforests

  6. Cool Research • Shiv Sudan wrote a research paper on the rainforest • They are trying to discover how the rainforest is being destructed • They are looking at this by gathering information on the amount of trees up per year • Keep trees up and have more life forms
