  2. What is WNV • Transmitted by mosquitoes that bit infected birds • First identified in eastern Africa in 1937 • Now worldwide in tropical and temperate climates • Appeared in United States in 1999 • Now reported in 48 states • At risk: People with weak immune systems

  3. What are the Symptoms • Most commonly resemble flu • High fever • Headache • Body aches • Nausea/vomiting • Vision problems

  4. How can I avoid WNV • Remove standing water from yard vessels • Repair damaged window and door screens • Protect against mosquito bites • Wear repellent with EPS-recommended ingredients • Avoid being outdoors at down and dusk • Wear cloths that cover skin
