Malik:The Hero • Our reluctant and cynical hero who lives in the safety of his own mind, until stumbling across Ghost • Finds refuge in anti-government street gangs, where he befriends the passionate Sumiko and unpredictable Elydia • Is called on an adventure to the surface world to find answers about President Arden Cayne and the fate of humanity while seeking help from the Ton’neru

  3. Ghost:The Shape-shifter • An artificial intelligence program that can wirelessly travel between electronic devices, contacts Malik early in the story to entice him with hints of a global conspiracy • Switches between “friendly” and “programmed” A.I., which causes concern and confusion for Malik early in the journey • Eventually exposed as a military infiltration robot, unknowingly sending info to the “elite”, betraying Malik’s trust

Sumiko:The Herald • Separated from her father, she runs away to join a cyber-punk street gang, eventually initiating her half-sister Elydia • Is clear-thinking, technically savvy, highly intelligent, passionate, enthusiastic and helps to serve as a role-model • Malik’s main companion, confidant and love interest during their quest

  5. Elydia:The Trickster • Younger half-sister of Sumiko who has taken care of herself since she was 8 years old, she has also been through many traumatizing experiences as a child • Serves as the group’s jovial moral compass, is wild, outgoing, witty and cunning, but is also naïve and argumentative • A trickster with a great sense of humor, she provides the group’s comic relief which often lightens the otherwise serious tone of the goal at hand

  6. Saburo:The Mentor • Half-man/half-bat leader of a nearby group of disgruntled Ton’neru; serves as the lead coordinator and negotiator for all human affairs • Has an above average intelligence and is excellent at communicating with humans in their native language • Fearing the rule of President Cayne, he agrees to help Malik on his quest by providing him two very important pieces of information

  7. President Arden Cayne:The Shadow • The main antagonist of the vault citizens, thought to be an evil dictator by many who live in Pacifica and Nihonkai • Promises people “restoration” and “improvement of life” while simultaneously working them to the bone, uses tactics resembling that of a police state that causes civil unrest among humans and Ton’neru • Has a shrouded past and his whereabouts are unknown, most not even sure if he is human, may be covering up the truth about surface conditions and causing earthquakes via VLF signals. • Both Malik and Cayne try to use Ghost to learn more about each other throughout the quest
