  1. To help you keep your skin looking younger and more beautiful, Marion Simms at Skin Sense Wellness has 10 tips to use.

  2. Retinol This vitamin A compound is used to fight wrinkles, aging and acne by increasing cell turnover and stimulating the production of collagen. Retinol can be obtained both over the counter and with a prescription. Apply at night (not during the day) and don’t wax the face when using this product. Waxing can remove skin as well as hair when retinol is being used. Sunscreen Wear a sunscreen every day – at least an SPF 30 - and reapply regularly. Tanning ages skin more rapidly than anything else and also puts you at risk for skin cancer.

  3. Hydrate Keep your skin well hydrated. Use both serums and cremes in dryer climates and colder weather. Also ‘eat’ water rich vegetables and fruits so that you are hydrating from the inside out as well as the outside in. Get enough Sleep Sleep is essential to keeping the skin youthful. While we rest the skin repairs and restores itself. Get 7-8 hours of rest a night if possible. If you can sleep on your back and use a silk pillow case you will also avoid those deep crease lines in the morning.

  4. Resveratrol/ Vitamin C Resveratrol is an antioxidant compound found in grapes, mulberries, peanuts and other foods. Anti-oxidants fight free radical activity that causes wrinkling and aging in the skin and the body. Make sure you have a good selection of anti-oxidants in your diet and skin care routine to keep your complexion clear and healthy. Products with vitamin C can work wonders on brown spots and pigmentation. Also an antioxidant, vitamin C can be applied to the skin daily to help protect it from the environment and boost the skin’s immunity. Serums containing vitamin C are particularly effective. Making sure you eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables also keeps your body tissue healthy too. Exfoliate Removing dead skin to encourage the production of new cells is vital to keeping the skin healthy. A Clarisonic brush works really well at cleaning out pores and removing unwanted layers and natural scrubs (not the nut kind) are great at gently exfoliating the skin surface.

  5. Lipids/Ceramides Lipids are fatty acids that are good for you and your skin. For example, vitamins A, D, E and K are all fat soluble. They are necessary for hydration and act as anti-inflammatories. Ceramides also fall unto this category and a ceramide serum is a great anti-aging tool to have in the tool box. Hyaluronic Acid This is a moisture binder that smoothes out wrinkles in the skin. It absorbs and holds water without drying and can be used on its own or in a more advanced formula. This is a great ingredient to use in dryer climates. Peptides Peptides are the building blocks between amino acid chains and proteins. So they are vital to include in your daily routine to help maintain and restore collagen and elastin. They also help to diminish fine lines and tighten the skin surface and are available in serums. Facials Regular facials customized each visit to suit the condition of the skin are an essential part of any anti-aging regime. Once a month is ideal but every six weeks can work and even every quarter can make a big difference to how the skin ages. Plus all the above listed anti-aging factors can be addressed and properly monitored by your aesthetician so that you get the very best results and keep the skin glowing and healthy year round.
