  1. A.D.A.P.TAlcohol & Drug Abuse Prevention TeamMagdalen Islands’ Drug and Alcohol Prevention and Awareness Network for Youth There is no shame in being a drug addict. The only shame is refusing to do something about it. There is no person walking the face of the earth who demonstrates more courage, dignity and integrity, on a daily basis, than an addict in recovery.

  2. History • In 2004, it became evident that the Anglophone community was facing an ever increasing substance abuse problem. After realizing the impact that this problem was having on the Anglophone youth of the Islands, the ADAPT committee was formed. • A.D.A.P.T. was incorporated in 2005. This committee is made up of community volunteers that strive each year to ensure that the Anglophone youth are educated and aware of the risks and effects of drug and alcohol abuse through awareness campaigns, youth activities, etc... • Awareness / Prevention activities hosted within the community are usually the initiatives of ADAPT or CAMI.

  3. MISSION AND MANDATES • To encourage the youth of our community to live a wholesome, healthy and productive drug and alcohol free life. • To educate community members on the issues of addiction and to promote community awareness. • To prevent consumption of drugs and alcohol amongst youth. • To offer drug and alcohol free activities for youth • To work with public partners to address the issue of substance abuse among youth

  4. Awareness & Prevention Tools • contests, pamphlets & placemats were created as well as radio capsules aired on the local radio station In 2008, A.D.A.P.T took part in awareness walks that were held in Cap-Aux-Meules to mobilize and make the population aware of the serious situation of substance abuse on the Magdalen Islands. The event was organized by local citizens.

  5. A.D.A.P.T. Summer Camp 2009 A drug and alcohol awareness and prevention camp was held in 2008 & 2009 in collaboration with the Fraser Recovery Program, CSSS des Iles, Anglican Parish of the Magdalen Islands and MINA network (the camp is made possible by local and regional donations). During the day, the youth were engaged in fun filled activities and each evening, they had group meetings that focused on drug /alcohol awareness and prevention. The youth participated well during these meetings and spoke candidly and openly. This event was a great experience for all of them and also a great success.

  6. FUN In October 2009, ADAPT held its fourth annual Halloween Open House and Neighborhood Watch November 16TH - 21st 2009 was the Provincial Drug & Alcohol Awareness and Prevention Week.

  7. In 2008, Maison des Jeunes des Iles received funding from Health Canada's Federal drug strategy to deliver an awareness and prevention program to the Magdalen Island youth. • As a result, a partnership was established with C.A.M.I and a part time resource person was hired to work from the English community. • Many accomplishments were achieved on this program so far including the implementation of the APT program into the English and French high schools.

  8. APT (Addiction Prevention Tools Program) Apt program is an evidence-based addiction prevention program for youth aged 12-18.
