  3. Hand Sewing Equipment and Notions

  4. Spool of Thread A long, thin strand ofcotton, nylon, or other fibers used in sewing or weaving.

  5. Hand Sewing Needle Eye of the needle Used for hand sewing material.

  6. Thimble Used to push a needle through fabric.

  7. Straight Pins Used to anchor patterns to fabric or hold layers of fabric together.

  8. Pin Cushion Used to hold pins.

  9. Buttons A small disk sewn on to a garment, either to fasten it by being pushed through a slit or for decoration. 4 Hole 2 Hole

  10. Cutting Equipment

  11. Scissors and Shears Scissors and shears are two distinct cutting tools used for different applications. Scissors: Multi purpose. To cut paper, threads, and scraps. Shears: To cut fabric. Other materials will dull the blade.

  12. MeasuringEquipment

  13. Tape Measure A flexible ruler used to take body measurements and measure fabric.

  14. ACTIVITY • Cut the pictures of the sewing tools apart (9 total). • Glue picture next to the appropriate terms and definitions.
