  2. Childhood • Rafael Trujillo was born in 1891. • Trujillo had eight siblings. • As a child he earned the nickname Chapita for collecting bottle caps. • (TDA.com)

  3. Trujillo’s Education And Jobs • When he was a child, Rafael was given a very irregular and limited basic education. • At sixteen years old, he earned a job as a telegrapher for 25$ a month. • (DOTM.com)

  4. Criminal Activity • Rafael was not a law abiding man. • While he was still working his job as a telegrapher, it was rumored that he and his brother participated in numerous crimes. • (BR.com)

  5. His Rise To Power • In 1918 Trujillo joined the Dominican National Guard. • Being accepted into the National Guard was his first real step towards power. • He rose up in the ranks rapidly in the military organization. • (SS.uk)

  6. The Election • In 1930 Trujillo joined the presidential election against Horacio Vasquez. • Supporters of his opponent were jailed, beaten up, and killed, assuring his victory. • (BR.com) and (SS.uk)

  7. Bloodiest Rule Of The 20th Century • The CIA warned Eisenhower that Trujillo was so unpopular in the Dominican Republic that he would soon be overthrown. • (BR.com)
