  1. Conclusions and Recommendations from Session 2 “Accelerator Hardware and Controls”Conveners: S. Deghaye, Th. Zickler

  2. Conclusions and Recommendations from Session 2 • Status and prospects of PS magnet consolidation program (D. Tommasini) • Phase 1 of the PS main magnet consolidation program completed • launch the manufacture of 50 new sets of PFW (~ 3 MCHF, 2 years) • Investigate the spare situation for bus bars and the impact in case of failure (water leak)? • Machine study should be continued to find out how many PFW can fail before the PS has to be stopped • spare situation for Booster TL, Linac 3, Ion Beam TL, LEIR needs to be improved • In view of the presented workload a priority list with schedule should be prepared • Extend the investigation on spare situation to all machines and experimental areas • Status and prospects of SPS magnet consolidation program (J. Bauche) • 255 Installed MBB magnets and all spares refurbished • Refurbishment of all spare SPS main magnets • Prepare at least one fully operational spare magnet of each magnet type • prepare consolidation of pole shims, coil retainers, and quadrupole manifolds • Prepare replacement campaign of the rubber water hoses in the whole SPS complex • A mitigation strategy for corrosion problem on Splitter in North area should be urgently studied ATOP days 2009 - Summary Session 2 (Th. Zickler)

  3. Conclusions and Recommendations from Session 2 (cont’) • Beam instrumentation throughout the accelerator complex (J. J. Gras) • Good progress - Many instrumentation related issues already solved • dedicated beam time needed to commission all new items • Review of test Procedure needed to assure proper functioning for PS Booster BLMs • PS Booster Fast wire scanners: Follow up remaining OP requirements • Review mechanical design of ISOLDE needle scanners needed • New PS Orbit System: Remaining CODD issues (triggering) to be checked • 6 turn transformer renovation (PS): OP needs provide dedicated OP GUI • PUs in TT2 to be made available for PS (timing) • SPS BSW 517 hardware problem to be investigated. • Ring BPMs offset problem: full renovation or additional attenuators needed • An Early involvement of OP and CO in the design phase would be desirable (e.g: watchdog, wire scanner electronics) ATOP days 2009 - Summary Session 2 (Th. Zickler)

  4. Conclusions and Recommendations from Session 2 (cont’) • Accelerator Controls Renovation Project (M. Vanden Eynden) • ACCOR Organization almost in place • Budget aspects to be finalized • The new PS MPS Regulation System (Q. King) • The new system is showing promising results • Few minor outstanding issues to be solved ATOP days 2009 - Summary Session 2 (Th. Zickler)
