  1. Annual Golf Getaway SAN DIEGO, CA It’s time again for the annual Getaway Gang Outing. We will continue having our event this year in sunny California, but this time we are heading a little further South. Our Getaway Golf trip will be slightly east of San Diego about 30 miles into the Barona Valley region. As in the past, we will be playing two awesome courses both rated 4 stars by Golfweek magazine. The first course is part of the Sycuan Resort and Casino and has been proclaimed as the favorite resort course in the San Diego area. The second course, Steel Canyon has been ranked # 1 Best course conditions in San Diego County by greenskeeper.org, and the Gary Player designed, 27 hole golf course is a Must Play for any visitor to San Diego Golf Date: Monday – April (TBD)Tuesday – April (TBD) Place: Sycuan Golf ClubSteele Canyon Golf Club First Tee Time: 10:00 AM 10:00 AM Sycuan Golf Resort (formerly Singing Hills Country Club) is a 425-acre golf resort managed by the Sycuan Tribe, and is nestled in the lush Dehesa Valley of El Cajon, California. Just a short 20 minute drive from downtown San Diego, the resort is the perfect place for a vacation, business retreat, conference, tournament or special event. With their two championship 18-hole golf courses (Willow Glen and Oak Glen) as well as their 18 hole executive course, Sycuan Golf Resort offers something for every golfer from beginner to expert. The resort also offers professional golf instruction through its PGA and LPGA certified Golf Academy.  Also included are 11 lighted tennis courts, swimming pools, Primrose Spa, and delicious fine and casual dining options.  Offering great values all year long, Sycuan Resort is a golfer’s paradise. Willow Glen is a challenging par 72 golf course with tight, narrow fairways, and strategically placed bunkers. The Sweetwater River occasionally runs along this San Diego golf course and its channel comes into play on many of the holes, providing for fantastic scenery and challenging shots. The Willow Glen golf course contains several dogleg holes and many elevation changes and water crossings that will challenge and entertain the golfer throughout the day. Willow Glen seems to be the preferred golf course of San Diego's Sycuan Golf Resort. Steele Canyon Golf Club is one of the few select San Diego golf courses honored by Golf Digest with its prestigious 4 Star Rating. Only 20 miles from downtown San Diego, Steele Canyon features three distinct golf courses, each offering an environment and type of play for every level of golfer. Here, in a San Diego location abundant with natural beauty, you'll be rewarded with an exceptional golfing experience at a great price. In the tradition of golf's greatest courses, Steele Canyon Golf Course has attained what is believed to be a perfect combination of scenery and challenge. Golfers at this golf course will stand in awe of the panoramic views from several of the tees and enjoy the challenge of dramatic shot-making on the beautifully sculpted fairways and the smooth, true greens. Gary Player, designed Steele Canyon's three distinct 9-hole golf courses. Each layout offers a unique natural environment and type of play for all levels of experience. The rugged Canyon 9 provides dramatic shot-making challenges and breathtaking elevations. The Ranch 9 winds through the picturesque fields of a working ranch, and the Meadow 9 drifts along a pastoral valley enhanced with scenic woodlands, streams, and native wildlife. Any combination presents one of 3 distinct 18-hole golf courses; which will provide a truly memorable golf experience

  2. Here is the plan. There has been another shift in the golf days. When we first started on these outings we used to play on Saturday & Sunday. The two most expensive days to play golf. So, to cut down the costs, I shifted our golf outings to play golf on Sunday and Monday. I have now found it to be significantly cheaper to play on Monday and Tuesday. In the case of this trip, each course is $40 less on Monday-Thursday. Lodging is $50 less (if you don’t stay on a Saturday night), and finally, Sycuan has a special stay and play package for Monday through Thursday (see details below). So, we are going to try the following: Sunday most likely will be utilized as a travel day. The first day of golf has been scheduled for the Sycuan Resort Golf Club, playing the Willow Glen Course on Monday, with our second day of golf taking place at Steele Canyon Golf Club playing the Canyon and Ranch nines on Tuesday. Finally, Wednesday will probably be the return day for most of you. Cost associated with staying at the Sycuan Resort: Stay and Unlimited Play PackageAccommodations in one of Sycuan Resort’s Deluxe rooms and unlimited golf at the resort.Unlimited golf available for one calendar day per day of stay.Sycuan Resort's All American Breakfast each morning per registered guest.Package price based upon double occupancy. 3. Website: http://www.sycuanresort.com/ Place: Sycuan Resort & Casino Date: Monday – April (TBD) Course: Willow Glen Course Tee Time: 10:00 AM (first group) Location: El Cajon, CA Price $100.00 (East of San Diego) Sycuan Golf Club is the centerpiece of the Sycuan Resort - located less than 1/2 hour from downtown San Diego. Sycuan Resort was recognized as the Best Golf Courses in San Diego, as well as one of the Top Courses by the San Diego Business Journal.  The golf facilities include 54 holes - two 18-hole championship courses and an executive course. There is a grass/mat driving range, short game area with sand bunker, plus multiple practice greens. The pro shop/check in is conveniently located within a short walking distance from any of the rooms, and several natural grass practice greens are interspersed throughout the property. On course golfers will find that the Kirby marking system is in place, with yardages posted every 25 yards from 200-100 (250 on par fives). Pin placement sheets are provided, to indicate the day's hole locations. The course is designed along mildly rolling topography, with spectacular mountain vistas. In fact, the valley is completely surrounded by hills and mountains, which provide a wind shield that helps create calm playing conditions. The Willow Glen layout presents dramatic elevation changes and also has many fairways that are tightly tree-lined. Proper placement off the tee is paramount to scoring well on the Willow Glen course. Many fairways are flanked by pine, oaks and cottonwoods that shape the landing zones and define the doglegs. It is unlikely that one will be able to finish a round here without having to chip out from under or behind a tree. The initial few holes are somewhat flat, creating a great contrast for the par four 4th, which plays from an extremely elevated tee, to a complex green protected by a lake. Holes 11 through 15 on the back side present perhaps the most beautiful stretch on the course. Throughout golfers will encounter significant fairways and greenside mounding, and medium sized, sloping bent grass putting surfaces that are in wonderful shape . In total there are 45 sand bunkers situated greenside or along the landing zones, and water comes into play on 6 holes. Four sets of tee areas play to distances and slopes measuring 6667 yards/130 slope, 6605 yards/129 slope, and 6207 yard/125 slope for men.

  4. Website: http://www.steelecanyon.com/ Place: Steele Canyon Golf Club Date: Tuesday – April (TBD) Course: Canyon nine & Ranch nine Tee Time: 10:00 AM (first group) Location: Jamul, California Price $105.00 (East of San Diego) Steele Canyon Golf & Country club in Jamul, just 20 minutes east of San Diego, is a beautiful 27-hole Gary Player championship design that is recognized as one of southern California's most exciting golf experiences. Three distinctive nines built on an extremely rolling terrain take advantage of the area's natural topography, to provide players of all skill levels with a challenging and invigorating round of golf. The property has been awarded 4 stars by Golf Digest Places to Play - one of only 3 courses in San Diego County to achieve such a status. The rugged Canyon nine presents breathtaking elevation changes and requires dramatic shot-making; the Ranch nine winds through fields that surround a working ranch, and the Meadow nine stretches along the pastoral valley floor, with beautiful woodlands and streams. Water comes into play on a total of 8 holes, and there are nearly 150 sand bunkers of varying shapes and sizes situated near the landing zones on the fairways or greenside. There are 4 sets of tees on each hole. Yardages and slope ratings for the different configurations measure in at between 6479 - 6834 yards/138-141 slope from the Blue tees, 5935 - 6228 yards/133-134 slope from the Whites, 5263 - 5657 yards/123-127 slope from the Golds and 4577 - 4790 yards/116/124 for ladies playing from the forward tees. All three layouts provide convenient measurements - with sprinkler heads measured to the front/middle/back of the green on the fairways, 100/150/200 yard markers on both the fairways and cart paths, plus small markers on the flagsticks for front, middle and back hole locations. The bent grass greens are medium in size and mildly undulating. On property is a full service practice facility with targeted grass range, short game area with sand bunker, plus two putting greens. Instruction from a staff of experienced PGA Professionals is available. The clubhouse features a pro shop plus restaurant/lounge with creative menus of fine food, plus exceptional service and fine outing/event facilities. With 27 holes of dramatic golf plus fine amenities and great service - Steele Canyon presents a perfect venue for tournaments and corporate events. This is a great golf facility - with a reasonable price structure for the area. The surrounding mountains create some postcard-perfect backdrops!
