  2. Software • Softwareis a collection of instructions that enables a userto interact with the computer or have the computer perform specific tasks for them. Without any type of software the computer would be useless. • For example, you wouldn't be able to interact with the computer without a software operating system.

  3. Word Processing • A word processoris a software program capable of creating, storing, and printing documents. • Users using word processors have the ability of creating a document and making any type of changes (editing) anywhere in the document. • You can create letters, essays, reports, etc.

  4. Spreadsheet • Also known as a worksheet, a spreadsheetis a data file made up of rows and columns that are used to sort data and allow a user to manipulate and arrange data easily, numerical data. • It let you to calculate values using mathematical formulas and the numerical data in the cells.

  5. Spreadsheets • Spread sheets can allow you to create a budget, balance your check book, organize large amount of data in an easy to read format, and much more.

  6. Databases • A collection of information organized in such a way that a computer program can quickly select desired pieces of data. • You can think of a database as an electronic filing system. Traditional databases are organized by fields, records, and files. • A field is a single piece of information; a record is one complete set of fields; and a file is a collection of records.

  7. Databases • For example, a telephone book would be a Database. It contains a list of records, each of which consists of three fields: name, address, and telephone number.

  8. Desktop Publishing • Desktop publishing is the use of a computer to produce documents for publication. Generally, this type of document is a high quality document containing text and graphics formatted on a single page. • For example desktop publishing is needed for creating such printed material as book covers, brochure, flyers, etc.

  9. Multimedia Presentation • A software program that enables a user to create a slideshow that has a combination of audio, video, animation, and/or graphics. • Presentation programs are often used to help discuss a topic or teach others. • Any type of visual representation Multimedia is often much more enjoyable and informative than text.
