What is a maternity services liaison committee or mslc

What is a Maternity Services Liaison Committee or MSLC ?

  • In existence since the 1980s

  • In response to unique status of maternity care within NHS

  • Users of maternity services are usually well people - just having a baby - a normal human event

  • National guidelines drawn up that say every hospital trust should have an associated MSLC

  • We bring together users with service providers and commissioners at regular meetings

  • We collect feedback from local parents and represent their views

  • We try to influence the way maternity care looks like locally

  • Not a statutory requirement but seen to be good practice for CCGs to fund and support their local MSLCs
