  1. Student Satisfaction Towards E-Learning :Influential Role Of Key Factors Mahwish Waheed LINC 2010, Massachusetts Institute of TechnologyCambridge, Massachusetts, USA

  2. Introduction • Use of Information Technology: Solution for quality issues • New technology has changed the student’s learning and teacher’s instructing methods

  3. Electronic Learning (EL) is the learning methodology using any electronic media. Due to the tremendous growth in ICT, EL is growing as a new pattern to deliver information in the educational area Open-courseware, web-based learning, e-education, open-learning, virtual education

  4. EL is a very attractive approach for delivering education in online environment but the growth rate is 35.6% (Arbaugh & Duray, 2002) . Main factor, influencing EL implementation is the student’s satisfaction

  5. Research Objectives • To flaunt the aspects causing student satisfaction for web-based educational environment.

  6. Factors that are affecting student’s satisfaction towards EL Students Instructor Interface of EL environment Technical assistance Course Design

  7. Theoretical Model • Student Factor • Attitude towards E-L • Computer anxiety • Computer efficacy • Interaction with other students • Instructor Factor • Instructor response • Attitude towards E-L Student E-L Satisfaction • Design Factor • User friendly • Perceived usefulness • Perceived ease of use • Course Factor • Content quality • Flexibility • Technical Factor • Technical support availability • Technology quality

  8. HYPOTHESIS

  9. Student Factor • Hypothesis 1. Student factor influence students’ Electronic Learning satisfaction. H1 Student satisfaction is positively influenced by student’s attitude towards E-L, their computer efficacy and interaction with other students while negatively influenced by student computer anxiety in online environment. Student Factor Student EL Satisfaction

  10. Instructor Factor • Hypothesis 2. Instructor factor influence students’ Electronic Learning satisfaction. H2 Positive timely response from instructor and instructor’s attitude towards EL increase student satisfaction . Instructor Factor Student EL Satisfaction

  11. Course Factor • Hypothesis 3. Course factor influence students’ Electronic Learning satisfaction. H3 Student’s satisfaction is positively influenced by E-L course flexibility and quality course contents. Course Factor Student EL Satisfaction

  12. Technical Factor • Hypothesis 4. Technical factor influence students’ Electronic Learning satisfaction. H4 Better internet quality and proper availability of technical assistance positively influence students’ satisfaction towards E-L. Technical Factor Student EL Satisfaction

  13. Design Factor • Hypothesis 5. Design factor influence students’ Electronic Learning satisfaction. H5 Design and interface of E-L system, perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use will add a positive response by student. Design Factor Student EL Satisfaction

  14. Methodology • Quantitative research technique was used in this study. The primary data collection method was opted. • Sample and Instrument Questioner was used as an instrument for the data collection. Data was collected from online students of MBA, English department, Computer department, French. Completed questioners : 276

  15. Measures Dependent Variable • Student EL satisfaction 12 item scale; Arbaugh (2000). Independent Variable • Student Factor 17 item scale ; Webster and Hackley (1997) • Instructor Factor 8 item scale Volery and Lord (2000) • Design Factor 12 item scale; Soong, Chan, Chua, and Loh (2001) • Course Factor 12 item scale; Arbaugh (2000) • Technical Factor 4 item scale; Amoroso and Cheney (1991).

  16. Results CORRELATION RESULTS Student EL Satisfaction & • Student Factor r = .79 , p< .01 ( H1, Supported) • Instructor Factor r = .68 , p< .01 (H2, Supported) • Course Factor r = .69 , p< .01 (H3, Supported) • Design Factor r = .74 , p< .01 (H4, Supported) • Technical Factor r = .63 , p< .01 (H5, Supported)

  17. REGRESSION RESULTS Student EL Satisfaction To • Student Factor β = .41, p < .001 (Confirmed) • Instructor Factor β = .31, p < .001 (Confirmed) • Course Factor β = .32, p < .001 (Confirmed) • Design Factor β = .35, p < .001 (Confirmed) • Technical Factor β = .113, p < .01 (Confirmed)

  18. Conclusion • Contribution Addition in the Asian E-Learning Literature. • Limitation Sample, Lack of Asian literature. • Future Research Directions Can be measured in other Asian countries. Cultural impact.
