  6. What we cover in reading class. • INDEPENDENT READING!! • literature genres • author's purpose and main idea • text structure (chain of events, cause and effect and logical reasoning) helps in procedural, narrative and informational texts. • persuasive text • literary elements in drama, poetry, and prose

  7. IB UNITS • IB informs my teaching and I seek to be responsive to student interests and concerns. I have two IB UNITS planned so far: • 1. What are the qualities of a leader? (2nd Six Weeks) • 2. How does my cultural heritage affect who I am? (6th Six Weeks)

  8. IB Learner Profile: OPEN MINDED

  9. Classroom Supplies Needed This Year: Pick up complete school supply list. Most important on first day: --6 composition books Bring to all classes, everyday: PENCILS PENCILS PENCILS!!! erasers binder agenda handheld sharpener loose leaf paper

  10. My grading and homework policy • Homework: Read 20 minutes a night, every night ANYTHING the student wants to read. I do NOT grade this, but ask for parents’ support on this. • In an ideal world, every family member would sit down and read their own book (or together if you’d prefer) for twenty minutes a night. All devices would be off. • Reading is life changing!
