  5. Common Instructional Shifts A change in the action or practice within the profession of teaching to positively impact the learning of all students in all academic areas.

  6. Ohio’s NLS Three Common Instructional Shifts 1. Build a deep understanding of content and effectively apply learning within and across disciplines. 2. Craft responses based on evidence including: demonstrate understanding, explain reasoning, and/or justifya position. 3. Use technology appropriately, strategically and ethically in academic and real-world settings.

  13. Understanding by Design(UbD) • a framework for improving student learning • emphasizes the teacher's role as a designer of units for learning • helps teachers clarify learning goals, create assessments of student understanding, and design effective and engaging learning activities.

  14. Evidence-Centered Design (ECD) in the Classroom ECD can inform a deliberate and systematic approach to instruction that will help to ensure daily classroom work leads to all students meeting the CCSS.

  15. Student Learning Objectives Dr. Randy Ross of ACSI has clarified that chartered, non-public school teachers do not need to meet the requirement for writing SLOs. We are more than welcome to do so, and the Summit County ESC offers workshops on writing SLO by content area.
