Field Books • Field books are source documents. • There may be times when these records will be utilized by people with little field experience. • It is important when preparing records to assume that all persons who will use the notes have no familiarity at all with the work you are recording.   3. Field Books • Only bound field books, similar to the Dietzgen No. 88-0205 will be used. Chapter 3 - Field Books

  4. FrontCover Information • The front cover of each field book shall be identified with bold letters in permanent ink with the following information: • Federal Aid Job No. • Financial Project ID. • Contract No. • Field Book No. • State Road No. • General Contents Chapter 3 - Field Books

  8. Field Book When recording data use a 2H or 3H pencil; never use a pencil soft enough to blur.   10. Field Books • Field notes shall be entered directly into the field books at the time & place the work is originally done. • Keeping notes on loose-leaf pages or scratch pads and transferring them to field books back at the office is PROHIBITED. Chapter 3 - Field Books

  11. Field Books • When practical, record all notes for one item in the same book and at the same place in the book. • Keep the measurements and calculations for Federal-Aid participating and non-participating items separated in field books. Final Measure Chapter 3 - Field Books

  12. Field Books • When more than one job (State or Federal) is constructed under the same contract, • Separate field books shall be kept for each job and the measurements and other data shall be kept separate for each job. Chapter 3 - Field Books

  13. Field Books • Field records for projects let under separate contracts shall NEVER be recorded in the same field book. • Field books shall contain only the records related to a single contract. Chapter 3 - Field Books
