  2. Lake Dallas High Band This is Your Life in Band • Schedule of events • Expectations/Responsibilities • Band Fees and Fundraisers

What is the Booster Club? • All band parents make up the Booster club to provide support for the Band students and band staff • Provide assistance at contests/games • Chaperones • Pit Crew • Concessions (home games) • Assist with fundraising • Other skilled volunteer opportunities available – construction, welding (not joking), sewing, painting • Work together with the directors to accomplish the goal of excellence in all band activities

This is Your Life in Band Schedule of Events • JUNE • New Member Orientation workshops • June 1, 2, and 4 4:30-6:30pm • Freshman Parents Orientation workshops • May 1 6:30-7:00pm or 4 7:00-7:30pm • Full Band Music Workshop (for all band members) • June 4 (4:30 pm to 7:00 pm only) • Pizza served after

This is Your Life in Band Schedule of Events August : • Saturday in Aug ( Aug 1st ) Band Booster Registration Day and Uniform fitting – We call it Falcon Band Fair Day • Band Camp Dates August 3-7th 8-4pm, 10th 8-4pm, 11-13th away at camp Copass, 17-20th 4-8pm • Band drill day – all day Saturday in August 15 • End of Band Camp Parent Performance August 20th • School Starts August 24th • Passbook Fundraiser kickoff • Rehearsals Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays afternoons –Friday mornings

  11. OTHER OCTOBER EVENTS October: • Homecoming Parade • PSAT Test • First 9 weeks – ELIGIBILITY • Afternoons and morning rehearsals continue

NOVEMBER 2009 • Friday (or Thursday) Football continues • Possible State competition in San Antonio (overnight) • Band auditions for spring semester placement • Lone Star Percussion competition • All-Region Band Auditions (all students) • Afternoon rehearsals continue • Possible playoff games (Saturdays) • Thanksgiving Holiday

Expectations/Responsibilities • Pay all band fees by September 1st (1st installment due at Band Registration August 1st) • Attend contests and games as support group • Chaperone football games and contests • Work concession stand at least one home game or one night for middle school football • Participate in all fundraisers – assist on committees, etc. • Assist during the spring at various events/contests • Sign up online www.ldisd.net for background check

  15. Expectations/ResponsibilitiesContinued • Make sure that your student is eligible to participate. Constantly check grades and communicate with classroom teacher • As in Middle school, make sure that your student practices. (Higher expectations from HS to MS band – music is harder, # of performances triple, memorize music)

Concert Band Requirements • Wind Ensemble • Take Private Lessons • Audition for All-Region Band • Perform a class one Solo at either Lake Dallas Solo and ensemble contest or at UIL • Attend all weekly sectionals and extra rehearsals • Attend all performances • Always be eligible to participate • Symphonic Band/Concert Band • Perform a Solo at either Lake Dallas Solo and ensemble contest or at UIL • Attend all weekly sectionals and extra rehearsals • Attend all performances

  19. Band Fees and Fundraisers (cont.) • Why Do We Do Fundraising? It costs about $700/per student per/school year to put them on the field and on the stage during concert season Student in Band Fees only covers less than half of the cost of running a top-notch band program. The other fees that must be paid vary by student (uniform cost, Show shirts, Polos, shoe cost, solo/ensemble fee cost) only those items that are specifically related to your individual student. Other major expenses that must be covered by fundraising (approximately $300 “fair share” per student) that benefit the band as a whole. These include: • Marching Show – Drill writer, drill techs, props/flags, music arrangement • Music and Equipment • Bus/transportation to special contest • Leader camps/training • Scholarships • Master classes
