Intro • We are not suppose to build the world class measurement system • Careful analysis of What is practical value of any “new measurement” • Requirement in implementation complexity for various requirements in TGk • Applications in High Level perspective • System Monitoring (+configuration/parametrization) OR • Active functions (e.g. Intra system/Inter system Handover) • Current TGk draft is containing mostly Active Scanning based information Hasse Sinivaara, Nokia

  3. Current TGk draft “holes” • Information for Passively Scanning terminals is missing • From Terminal point of view Nokia see that getting information by listening only is very important Hasse Sinivaara, Nokia

Nokia Interests • Getting information by listening only • Site Reporting, Load information in Beacon • Practical Value: • More effective HO algorithms and AP selection algorithms can be build for multiradio terminals • Information is more critical for Cellular-WLAN Multiradio terminals Hasse Sinivaara, Nokia

Nokia interest, cont. • ESS boundary • Simple bit in beacon telling whether AP is “gateway” or not • Practical Value: • Cellular-WLAN multiradio terminals able to detect which cells are the most optimum to perform Handover and where those “spots” are • Helps the AP to guide the terminal into correct cell, can be used to trigger the WLAN-to-Cellular HO as well • minimising the spurious HO’s between WLAN/Cellular if the WLAN system has coverage holes Hasse Sinivaara, Nokia

Implementation concerns • Most crucial is that the implementation complexity stays low • PSNI/EVM/RCPI in practise: • PSNI has to be taken into account in the WLAN chip design as a specific implementation • Tight Accuracy in PSNI/EVM/RCPI requires one-by-one calibration for 802.11 Type2 devices Hasse Sinivaara, Nokia
