  3. The Need to Move • Mcauley@Mitchelton Campus required to expand. • Increase demand for undergraduate and postgraduate places. • The need to accommodate future growth. • Where?

Requirements • Implementation of IT Infrastructure • Run both campuses simultaneously • Relocation of national systems • Relocation of all Brisbane based systems • Migrate VOIP telephony services • Relocation of Student Administration/Services • Relocation of national helpdesk • Relocation of computer labs • Relocation of academic and general staff work spaces

  6. Network Preparation • Rationalisation of existing subnets • 3 Class C IP address spaces • Server subnet Identified as migration subnet • Move services between subnets • Identified second VOIP subnet • Implementation of NAT • 3 NAT Class A IP address spaces

  7. Banyo Infrastructure • Construction Site Access • Each Building cabled with CAT6 • Buildings interconnected by fibre • Siemon Cabling • One Server room • Six Communications Rooms • 34 Mb Microwave Link to QRNO • Cisco active equipment

  8. Banyo Prepartions • ATI Microwave Installation • Server room completed • Available Communication Rooms completed • UPS installed • Air-conditioning installed • Cabling tested & certified • Cisco 3524’s installed

  9. Cross Campus Connectivity • Banyo infrastructure in place • Liaison with UQ for microwave location • Mt Cootha Repeater • Liaison with QRNO to plan incremental cut over of subnets.

  10. Server Facility Relocation • Last full Friday backup • QRNO re-route migration subnet • COPE sensitive transport • Physical move AM Saturday • National Unix Systems Team • Local NT Systems Teams • Saturday PM testing • Sunday User acceptance testing

  11. National Services • Banner: Student Administration System • Pay System • Finance Sunaccounts System • DNS Secondary Server • Helpdesk Database Server • MIS Development/Training Servers • Cache Servers

  13. Project Update • National and Local Services @ Banyo • DHCP/NAT Server @ Mitchelton • Brisbane Staff still @ Mitchelton • Mitchelton connected to Banyo • 5 remote campuses connected with full functionality • Site still under construction

VOIP Migration • Requirement to have VOIP running at both campuses • Migrated the secondary VOIP Class C range to Banyo • No quality of service as no TOS5 traffic on this subnet. • Call Managers still located at Mitchelton • ONRAMP installation @ Banyo • Overnight Relocation of Call managers and VOIP primary Class C range to Banyo • Unity Messaging Server Relocated

  15. Student Administration • Exceptionally busy period (Dec 02) • Exams • Year 12 Results • Liaison with UAC and QTAC • Relocate QTAC and UAC Servers to Banyo

  16. Helpdesk Functionality • Helpdesk normally based out of Brisbane • HEAT helpdesk application • Functionality relocated to North Sydney for the duration of the general staff move. • Helpdesk Operator relocated to co-ordinate client support from North Sydney • Auto escalation and Ticket Generator built @ North Sydney

  17. General Staff Move • As part of the larger Banyo project, Staff were relocated building by building. • Key Stakeholders setup • ITCS then followed removalists and setup staff as the rolled out. • Consisting PC and VOIP configuration. • QRNO rerouted final Class C range to Banyo

  18. Computer Labs & Information Commons • Relocation of Lab computers • Configuration of Lab environments including Audio Visual. • Refurbishment of E-Podiums • Implementation of Library Information Commons. • Installation of Teaching Spaces including Audio Visual.

  19. Putting out Fires • Helpdesk relocated back to Brisbane • ITCS staff from all sections join as one • Increased presence to smooth transition for staff.

  20. Decommissioning Mitchelton • Removal of old infrastructure • Decommissioning of Microwave link • Relocation of remaining DHCP/NAT Server
