Daily Schedule • 8:45-9:20 Morning Learning & Meeting (Track 8:45-9:05) • 9:20-10:20 Math • 10:25-12:15 Literacy Block (Daily5/Reading/Writing Workshop) • 12:20-12:50 Recess • 12:55-1:20 Lunch • 1:25-2:10 Specials • 2:15-3:00 Science or Social Studies • 3:05-3:35 WOW (Work on Work) • 3:35 - Clean Up • 3:40 - Dismissal • Specials have a rotating schedule; PE, Guidance/Media, Technology, Art, Music, Study Island

Attendance/Dismissal • Send in Doctor’s not for excused absent (ILLNESS) • Tardy - your child needs to check in at the office before coming to class. • Sign out students in office if leaving early • If your child is not going home in the usual way please send a note or email. Students will not be released without a note. • If your child can not participate in PE please send a note. This will also restrict them from recess.

  5. Conduct • Will be reflected in conduct report/report card. • Walk at recess for minutes before playing. • PBIS behavior chart (Specials, Lunch) • Parent Contact – ‘Oops Form’ sent home to be reviewed, signed and return • Office referral

  6. Student-Led Conferences • At the end of the first 9-weeks we will be holding student-led conferences to discuss goals for this school year. • Available for phone conferences. • A sign-up sheet for conferences times will be coming home soon…

Curriculum • Connections Document– Wake County objectives for all subjects • Guided Reading 3-5 and The Daily 5 (Reading Workshop Curriculum Framework and Wake County Focus Lessons) • Writing Workshop (Wake County mini lessons and based off 6+1 Writing, conferencing, independent writing) • Word Work (Words Their Way) • Math Expressions by Houghton Mifflin • Social Studies NC by Harcourt • Science Kits from FOSS (4 Units) • Check website!

Assessments • Check the calendar on our class website for all scheduled assessments • Unit Tests in Math, Science, Social Studies • Quick quizzes in Math and Word Work (on Fridays) • Performance Assessments in Reading and Writing – focusing on concepts taught • EOGs – Reading and Math - May • CogAT – Screening for Gifted Program – Oct.

  9. Standards Based Grading • Standards-based grading, Levels 1, 2, 3, 4 based on the objectives for 3rd grade • See Wake County Handout • Opportunities for Level 4 will be offered on most assessments

Homework link on website • Homework will be sent home on Mondays and be due Friday of the same week (should not take more than 30 minutes per night). • Students plan for the week in their agendas • Science/Social Studies projects • Homework/projects from home are to enrich learning but cannot contribute to a report card grade. • Math Stars – homework challenge

  11. Monday Folders • Every Monday, your child will bring home a Monday Folder with graded papers and notes from school. • Please send the Monday Folders back to school the following day (unless returning signed paperwork). • Initial that you viewed the conduct report for that week.

  12. Snacks • Birthday • Treats • During our lunch time in the cafeteria (12:55-1:20) • Please no sugary drinks (ANTS!) • Working snack around 10:30-so something easy to eat • PLEASE SEND IN A WATER BOTTLE!

  13. Volunteers • Thank you to Tessa King (Christian’s Mom) and Ashley Sikes (Cilla’s Mom) for being co-class parents! • Unicornicopia-October 7th • Class volunteers will not begin until October, I will contact those of you who are interested.
