  3. How long do people live? Gap in life expectancy at ward level = 13.6 years

  4. Did you know that? • 1,656 people in East Sussex died from cancer in 2009. It is estimated that 464 of these were smoking-related and 99 were alcohol-related • 847 people in East Sussex died from Heart Disease in 2009. It is estimated that 169 of these were smoking-related • 524 people in East Sussex died from stroke in 2009. It is estimated that 52 of these were smoking-related

Lifestyle • Alcohol • In one year there are: • 10,187 alcohol-related hospital admissions • 948 attendances at A&E due to assaults during the night • Smoking • 88,000 adult smokers in East Sussex • 870 women a year smoking throughout pregnancy • At 6 weeks following childbirth, 784 mothers and 1,390 fathers smoke • Obesity • 1,530 Year 6 children overweight or obese
