IKFC Outreach Opportunities • During the December 2, 2011 IKFC meeting, we discussed topics for future meetings. • A suggestion was made to consider outreach opportunities and reports on activities or projects outside of CTSAs that could impact CTSAs, i.e., AAMC-GIR, AMIA, or EduCause • The goal for this discussion is to explore these opportunities and decide our level of commitment to them.

  3. Informatics Key Function Committee The CTSA Informatics Key Function Committee will ensure successful implementation of informatics support for all CTSA functions by sharing knowledge, expertise, and resources. To ensure efficient and effective collaboration and sharing among clinical and translational researchers and their research partners globally, the CTSA Informatics Key Function Committee will recommend and incorporate the appropriate standards and best practices necessary for broad interoperability while ensuring privacy and confidentiality protections for human participants. The CTSA Informatics Key Function Committee working with appropriate communities will strive to set a national example in adoption and use of clinical research informatics and technology to support clinical and translational research.

AMIA CRI Clinical Research Informatics The Clinical Research Informatics Working Group's mission is to advance the discipline of CRI by fostering interaction, discussion, and collaboration among individuals and groups involved or interested in the practice and study of CRI, and to serve as the home for CRI professionals within AMIA

AMIA CRI 2011 Town Hall Ideas and Proposals for CRI-WG Activities: • CRI education competencies • Defining competencies in CRI • Defining and exploring educational programs and initiatives in CRI, including leveraging the work in the CTSA network • Defining case studies that illustrate core competencies • CRI focused policy recommendations • Best practices for multi-site study data coordinating centers • Webinars w/ partner organizations and other opportunities for ongoing education • AMIA members have experience with education and promotion activities in other organizations and in medical education. Certainly there are many possibilities here and great potential to provide leadership and promote awareness in our field. • Other topics related to EHRs

  6. AAMC GIR The AAMC's Group on Information Resources (GIR) promotes excellence in the application and integration of information resources in academic medicine. In an age when Health Information Technology is a strategic asset and an operational necessity, GIR's research, development, and policy‐setting on information resources, informatics, educational technology, infrastructure, standards, and related science and technology is vital to the advancement of medical teaching institutions. The GIR fosters: • the development and continued improvement of information resources in AAMC‐member medical schools, teaching hospitals and health systems, and academic societies; • the professional development of leaders of information resources in medical schools and teaching hospitals; • the development of policies that recognize the fundamental importance of information resources in medical education, health care delivery, clinical care, and basic and clinical research; • the advancement of research in information resources, medical informatics and related science and technology and the dissemination of the results of that research. The purpose of the GIR is to provide a forum for individuals in relevant roles of leadership and responsibility to promote excellence in the application and integration of information resources in academic medicine, including medical education, clinical care, medical and health sciences research, health science libraries, public health, and institutional planning.

GIR Communication Task Force • The GIR seeks to improve communications and branding initiatives to ensure that multiple audiences can become: • well informed about Information Technology trends affecting academic health science centers • well informed about GIR products, programs, services, and initiatives • actively engaged in GIR and AAMC endeavors • An Organizational Strategy: “Investigate opportunities to communicate directly with other AAMC professional development groups, including presenting priority topics at their conferences or incorporating GIR specific reports in their newsletters.”

  8. Opportunities??? • Jointly sponsor/deliver webinars with partner organizations • Explore other opportunities for ongoing education, formal and continuing • Common discussion groups for overlapping topics • Coordinate policy development efforts • Other???
