  1. 7th Annual Golf Getaway Temecula Valley On the Road Again…Next stop…Temecula Valley Well, we have decided to take our Golfing Getaway Outing to a new location. Next stop…Temecula Valley, California. The first four years were in Las Vegas, the latter two have been enjoyed in Palm Springs, with the 6th annual event having the best turn out so far (23 golfers). So, it‘s time for another change in venue. First off I checked out the possibility of playing some golf at the renowned courses in the Northern San Diego region. I checked into Torrey Pines, La Costa and Aviara resort courses. They all had green fees of $250 and up per round, plus the resort accommodations were very expensive without much night life in the area. Not feeling like spending that kind of cash, I checked elsewhere and ran across this option. Temecula Valley has five golf courses in the area (three are rated 4 stars), an Indian casino/resort, an Old Historical Town for sightseeing and numerous wineries. This sounded like a viable option for having fun. Golf Date: Sunday – April 22, 2012 Monday – April 23, 2012 Place: The Redhawk Golf Club The Pechanga Resort Course: Redhawk Golf Course Journey Golf Course First Tee Time: 10:00 AM 10:00 AM Redhawk and Journey are two very challenging golf courses, with an island green, elevation changes, tricky placements, undulating greens and spectacular views. The Journey golf course also has carts with new upscale GPS systems. Rated 7th Best among California’s public golf courses, Redhawk Golf Course in Temecula has what it takes to impress. The gently contoured course presents a wonderful challenge for golfers of just about every skill level. The combination of water, trees, and the perfect California climate inspire visitors with each hole they play. Find out for yourself why Redhawk Golf Course in Temecula, California is such a favorite of area golfers. It may be the best thing you do for your golf game. It's A Ron Fream design, built in 1991 and a must play. Elevation changes, tiered greens, a variety of holes, sand and water all make this layout a tough game of golf in a very beautiful setting. Arthur Hills, world-renowned and award-winning golf course architect, was presented with a unique piece of land from the Pechanga Tribe that was magnificent, but very challenging. With respect for the natural habitat and cultural sensitivities relative to the Pechanga heritage, Hills and his team at Arthur Hills/Steve Forrest & Associates, developed an 18-hole master plan for Journey at Pechanga that is challenging yet playable and enjoyable. "The grandeur of panoramic vistas, rock outcroppings, stately old oak trees and the mountains edging one side of the course became a tapestry on which to weave the strategic aspects of the game of golf in order to evoke the spirit of competition," said Hills. The vision for the course focuses on highlighting the drama and natural beauty of the rare and distinctive site while preserving the sensitive areas and creating a golf layout that exhibits the highest standards and traditions. It is the perfect union of nature, form and function.GPS will be available in the golf carts at the Journey Course. Here is the plan. As was the case last year, Saturday (4/21/12) most likely will be utilized as a travel day. The first day of golfing has been scheduled for the Redhawk Golf Club on Sunday (4/22/12), with our second day of golfing taking place at the Pechanga Resort – Journey Course on Monday (4/23/12). Finally, Tuesday (4/24/12) is an optional day of leisure or a departure day if you so choose. If you stick around for an extra day of fun, your return day will be Wednesday (4/25/12).

  2. Easter falls on 4/8/12 this year and my rule is to always stay away from the week before and the week after Easter because of school and Spring breaks. So, this year we are scheduled to play a little later in April than usual, but we should still have phenomenal weather. As in the past, our outing will have a Casino & Resort within the vicinity enabling those who enjoy gambling the opportunity to make a few wagers. Pechanga Casino Resort is the largest Indian casino in all of California. I will be staying there. Check out the Journey to Golf Package (pretty good deal). However, there is an abundance of hotels in the area, so everyone planning on attending should be able to find lodging to their liking. If you are not familiar with Temecula, it is located between Los Angeles and San Diego off Interstate 15. If you are planning on flying in for the event, the Ontario Airport would be the closest (50 miles north) or if you prefer, the San Diego Airport is 60 miles south of Temecula. Last year’s trip had another good turn out. So, don’t miss out in Year #7 (2012). Once again, we will have challenging golf courses, enjoyable socializing (golfing and at dinner) and fond memories. Make plans and don’t miss out! This year as in the past, a group dinner is planned. As was the case in the past two outings, two evenings/restaurants have been selected. Both restaurants are located in the Historic Temecula Downtown District. The first dinner social will be at the “Gambling Cowboy” on Sunday evening (Sunday special: Prime Rib at $1 per ounce) The second dinner social will be held on Monday evening at “Baily’s Restaurant” If you have any questions, feel free to inquire, Lad Meairs Email: meairs2@comcast.net (home) or laddin.d.meairs@lmco.com (work) Phones: (925) 978-0170 (home) – (925) 829-8615 ext 330 (work) - (925) 813-2465 (cell) Total Cost for the two rounds of Golf is: $185 Mail checks to: Lad Meairs 1254 Mokelumne Court Antioch, CA 94531 Redhawk Journey http://www.gamblingcowboy.com/ http://www.oldtowndining.com/ Terms of Agreement: To get the group tee times and discounted rate of $000 total, per person, for both courses, I had to sign a contract for a minimum of 16 golfers at both golf courses with a $500 non-refundable deposit (each course). Please make up your mind by early March. I have to pay in full, 30 days prior to our scheduled dates (money due on March 15, 2012). I need your official commitment and green fees by that date. If you need to wait and settle up in April, I can carry it on my credit card, but you will need to honor your commitment. 3. Website: http://www.redhawkgolfcourse.com/golf/proto/redhawkgolfcourse/ Place: Redhawk Golf Club Date: Sunday – April 22, 2012 Course: The Redhawk Course Tee Time: 10:00 AM (first group) Location: Temecula, California Price $75.00 Redhawk Golf Club in Temecula, is a beautiful 18-hole championship design that is managed by CSC Golf. Located in the heart of the Temecula wine country. This course hosted the 2006 California Open, has been awarded 4 stars by Golf Digest Places to Play and rated the 7th best of California's public golf courses. The recognition is well deserved, as this property features some spectacular golf holes, with scenery to match. Mountain Vistas are prevalent at every turn, as the course winds its way through an upscale residential community. Architect Ron Fream made excellent use of the rolling topography, with the course situated below the residential developments which are sufficiently removed from the playing surfaces. There are 4 sets of tee boxes that play to distances and slopes measuring 7095 yards/145 slope, 6755 yards/139 slope, 6310 yards/131 slope and 5515 yards with a slope of 125 for women hitting from the forward sets. As these ratings indicate, the layout presents ample challenges from the two back tees, and is a fair test from the whites and reds. On course sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the green, and 100/150/200 yard markers are posted both on the fairways and cart paths. 150 yard stakes double as directional devices, and color coded flags indicate hole locations. On property is a pro shop plus the Rico Cantina that serves a variety of sandwiches and dishes with a Mexican flair. Practice facilities include a targeted grass range with sand bunker, a short game area for chipping, plus two wonderfully manicured putting greens. Even the golf carts are equipped with state of the art GPS systems. The putting surfaces on the course are quite sloping, usually raised, and frequently double or triple tiered. The bent grass greens are true rolling and are in excellent condition. Miss the greens on the approach, and golfers will be confronted with some tricky up and down opportunities in the grassy swales and mounds that create them. There are some gorgeous golf holes, but the par 4 sixth, playing from an elevated tee over wonderfully landscaped sand waste areas along with the island green par three 8th are simply spectacular. Ditto for the par three 12th, which also has an island green - surrounded by sand waste! There are over 70 soft sand traps of various shapes and sizes situated along the landing zones of the fairways or located greenside, and water comes into play on 6 holes. There is generally plentiful room on the fairways, but lots of trouble to get into near the greens.

  4. Website: http://www.journeyatpechanga.com/ Place: Journey at Pechanga Resort Date: Monday – April 23, 2012 Course: The Journey Course Tee Time: 10:00 AM (first group) Location: Temecula, California Price: $110.00 Destined to be one of the finest in California, Journey at Pechanga is a new 72 Par, 7,219 yard Arthur Hills designed Championship 18-Hole golf course open to the public as of August 1, 2008. Nestled in the foothills of the scenic Southern California wine country in Temecula Valley on the Pechanga Indian Reservation, adjacent to Pechanga Resort & Casino, the impressive, world class course winds along a spectacular boulder strewn mountain with over 7 miles of cart paths. Journey also boasts a dramatic 62,000 square foot Clubhouse with high-end resort amenities, designed by Franklin Lloyd Wright. Journey offers an ideal golfing experience for all skill levels. The course is challenging, but playable with a choice of five tee boxes. Journey winds its way across the Pechanga River over impressive, rustic wooden bridges and takes full advantage of the simply awe-inspiring terrain which rises and falls some 300 feet - often with majestic views of the Temecula Valley. As the name implies, this golf course presents an exhilarating "journey" that is sure to create an unforgettable and lasting impression for every golf enthusiast who sets foot on the course. The practice facilities include a targeted grass range, short game area with multiple sand bunkers, plus 2 large putting greens. On course amenities include a fleet of upscale golf carts, each equipped with coolers and Informer GPS, which provides accurate information from tee to pin. PGA Professional Corey Pavin has added his approval as representative for the property, as he is the official ambassador for the course, which he is confident all golfers will love to play! The five sets of tee areas play to distances and slopes measuring 7219 yards/142 slope, 6736 yards/138 slope, 6276 yards/132 slope, 5534 yards/122 slope and 4852 yards with a slope of 116 from the forward tees. Players will encounter undulating fairways along an extremely rolling terrain, highlighted by a drop of 175 from tee to fairway on the number 1 handicapped par four 6th. The layout begins simple enough with a couple of very score-able par fours, but slowly toughens as the terrain works its way up the mountain. The green complexes range from fairly simple with ample recovery areas along the fringes, to spectacular undulation with tiers and collection areas awaiting miss-hit approaches. The putting surface on 18 is an adventure, with 2 tiers separated by a dip that creates the need for golfers to land on the correct level. Four putts are not uncommon here! The Journey ends in spectacular fashion…but the entire golf experience is awesome! Situated in Temecula between Palm Springs and San Diego, this golf course is truly a must play

  7. Optional Social Events Saturday after arrival – Afternoon or Evening – April 21, 2012 Historic Old Town Temecula Located against the sage covered coastal mountains in Southwest California, Old Town Temecula is a unique setting for outstanding shopping, dining, and entertainment. Timber lined sidewalks lead the way as you explore and discover the past in this small town that has grown up to be a major visitor destination.  Wine tasting is available at Longshadow, Tesoro and Temecula Hills Wineries in the downtown area. Water holes can easily be found and a couple of favorites include The Gambling Cowboy Saloon, Front Street Bar & Grill, 5th Avenue Dog House and the Temecula Wine & Beer Garden. Antiques and crafts play a major role in the retail offerings of the town. Be it furniture or artifacts it is always a serendipitous moment when you find that piece you have always been looking for. The nature of the town lends itself to an exploration adventure because our stores are tucked in the old alley ways of Old Town as much as they are on the main drags of Old Town Front Street and Main Streets. If the "old" does not suit your fancy, be sure to visit the numerous contemporary stores that feature hard to find upscale product lines of art, collectibles, home decor, garden furniture, and jewelry. Finally, the corner of Main and Front streets features, to our knowledge, the only olive oil tasting bar and gift shop that proudly promotes locally grown olive oil. While you are shopping surely you will work up an appetite and Old Town has thought of this. Old Town boasts only independent restaurants for your dining pleasure. Several are chef/owner operations that strive to continue the tradition of fine dining that started in Temecula with the advent of the Temecula Valley Wine Country. Old Town Temecula is destined to be the capitol of Southwest Riverside County for quality entertainment venues. The Old Town Temecula Community Theater provides an intimate setting for live stage performances. Additionally, numerous restaurants in Old Town provide quaint backdrops for a variety of live bands. At the southern end of Old Town, Bailey's and Front Street Bar & Grill have regular performances of their magic dinners, murder mystery dinners, and comedy nights
