  2. General info Facebook is a social networking website, launched on February 4, 2004, and founded by Mark Zuckerberg.

General info • Initially the membership was restricted to students of Harvard College. • Subsequently expanded to other USA university. • People with a university email address from institutions across the globe were eligible to join. • Since September 11, 2006, it has been made available to any email address user who inputs a certain age range. • As of July 2007, the website had the largest number of registered users among college-focused sites with over 34 million active members worldwide.

An application programming interface (API) is a source code interface that an operatingsystem or library provides to support requests for services to be made of it by computer programs. • Because it aims to a specific target: student and people that works together in real world. • Because the developers has released the API for let third part developers to built new applications for facebook.

  10. Facebook Applications Applications are tools that allow you interact with your friends and networks. Examples of applications that Facebook has built are Photos, Notes, and Groups. Now by his openAPI library, Facebook allows third parties to develop applications that abide by your privacy settings and live within the site. Adding applications allows you to expand the usefulness of the site.
