  1. RelA 와 SpoT RelA : synthesis of ppGpp Rel은 ATP로부터 2개의 phosphate을 GDP의 3’-OH에 붙이는 GDP pyrophosphokinase의 역할을 하며 Mg2+이 필요하다. SpoT : hydrolysis of ppGpp Spo는 Ral 에의해 synthesis된 GDP에서 다시 2개의 phosphate을 dephosphorylation하는 GDP diphosphkinsae 로써의 역할을 한다. 이때는 Mn2+가 필요하다. Gram negative bacteria의 경우 :RelA, SpoT가 각각의 protein으로 experssion되어 각각의 functional protein activity을 나타낸다. Gram positive bacteria : RelA, SpoT가 relA/spoT homolog gene에 coding 되어, 다시말하면 한 유전자내에 bifunctional protein activity을 나타낸다. 연구된 바로는 relA/spoT homolog 에 N-terminal는 Rel/Spo activity fragment, C-terminal은 ribosome binding fragment로써의 기능을 하는 것으로 보고되어있다
