EMIT • EMIT – Educating Minds Through Innovation and Technology is a public non-profit, Federally designated 501-c-3 dedicated to providing educational solutions for at-risk and vulnerable communities. www.emitmind.org • After-school, weekend, holiday, and summer activities that support the children and families of the most vulnerable in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties.  We encourage student volunteers and provide summer employment for our programs.

EMIT - continued • Facilitate individual and group participation in outreach opportunities by providing the project, the logistics, and support.  • Ship educational supplies and equipment, personal supplies of food, clothing, bedding, and toiletry where we receive requests or have our own contacts abroad • Provide educational solutions for small schools utilizing telecommunications and technologies that allow teachers and students to participate in shared learning environments, access teaching materials, additional courses, live tutoring, counseling, and other tools that make a small school an attractive alternative for parents and for home schooled that desire all the amenities of a large school program (SMALL SCHOOL INITIATIVE)

Small School InitiativeEMIT SSI • The Small School Initiative is designed to address the many challenges faced by small schools in finance, marketing and enrollment, and expanding educational opportunities for students. We address these through the use of video conferencing and other software solutions.

BETA PROGRAM • Two to three selected schools in the SECC • Begins January 2013 operating through June 2016 • Joint effort between SECC, Education Department, School, and EMIT to beta test the EMIT Small School Initiative • Provides participating schools free equipment and services in exchange for participation • Provides participating schools further options to participate in consortium of small schools

SSI - Operation • EMIT is a service to the school and/or school system • Policies, procedures, and protocols will be developed by the school and/or school system for the use of all EMIT services and products • EMIT negotiates, communicates, and complies with the school and/or system administrator • A signed contract is maintained by EMIT and the school and/or system administrator • EMIT administration is available for all administrative personnel and scheduled meetings addressing issues with the Small School Initiative program

Technology Objectives • Provide a technology infrastructure that: • (1) supports a vibrant learning environment • (2) provides a collaborative cooperative between complementing schools for shared assets • (3) is user-friendly, durable, requiring minimal teacher or student effort to integrate in teaching and learning • (4) stimulates and supports creativity that enhances pedagogy • (5) provides free materials, services, and support that affect cost and produce new revenue streams.

EMIT Service Objectives • Provide Technology solutions that: • (1) DO NOT interfere with the mission, vision, and administration of a school and/or school system • (2) Comply with the standards, policies, objectives, vision, and mission of a school and/or school system • (3) Provide services and materials that enhance the teaching and learning experience • (4) Provide services and materials that reduce administrative and operational costs • (5) Provide services that bring new streams of revenue • (6) Provide services and materials that enhance the image of the school

Technology • Video conferencing equipment in MOBILE design • Mobile – a wheeled cart with dual flat screens swinging out from a center pole with attached audio and video capture and feed • 20 student wireless devices • Moved from one location to another, plugged into available hard wiring in each room • Video conferencing equipment in a FIXED structure • Interactive smart board attached in classroom location • Speakers, HD camera secured for quality experience • Locked cabinet for supporting hardware and 20 student wireless devices

  12. Classroom Design Six foot interactive white board (4 stations) Student held (pen/touch) tablets for interactive work – any location Teacher – laptop, tablet, document camera Ceiling mounted HD camera and Audio capture/projection Server Storage cart for tablets

EMIT Services • SERVICE: • 24/7 support of all technologies for school and home • Teacher, student, administration, and parent training initially and annually • System administration – scheduling, on-demand capability, announcements, live assistance • School and teaching administration: i.e., quiz, test, and worksheet design, delivery, grading, and recording • After-school teacher, student, and parent access to EMIT products and live connectivity with others in collaboration

EMIT Products • Teaching presentation materials • Classes and workshops: i.e., art, videography, health and wellness, music, advanced and special education. • Shared software for teaching and administration: i.e., I movie, subject and grade specific learning software, school accounting, grade book, attendance, etc. • After-school student, teacher, and parent and services: live tutoring, shared software, live connectivity with participants in cooperative

  15. Scheduling for Collaboration

  16. New Stream of Revenue • EMIT will recruit home schooled to participate live in the classrooms of the cooperative. These new tuitions, for a class or for a full education will be divided between EMIT, the cooperative schools, as agreed to by the school administrators and/or system administrator. • As EMIT becomes able, 10 percent of net revenues will be returned to cooperative schools and/or system for student assistance or technology purchase.
