Rationale for Community Portal • GEOSS Portal provides common discovery and access services for all GEOSS resources • Some ability to filter to users’ interests • Can satisfy many GEOSS users • GEO communities may wish to build there own portal that directly accesses GCI services • Focus on resources of interest to their community • Allows them to integrate GEOSS/GCI services into their own systems • GCI as an enabling infrastructure • Always envisioned in the GEOSS architecture • Team formed to explore community portal development
