  1. V2 – Information Technology Access InterfacesLiaison report from INCITS V2 to JTC1 SC25 WG1 for its meeting Sep. 26-29, 2005in Edinburgh, Scotland Gottfried Zimmermann University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA Technical Editor, V2 International Representative, V2

  2. V2 - Information Technology Access Interfaces 5 new ANSI/INCITS standards from V2 Information Technology - Protocol to Facilitate Operation of Information and Electronic Products through Remote and Alternative Interfaces and Intelligent Agents: • Universal Remote Console: ANSI/INCITS 389-2005 • User Interface Socket Description: ANSI/INCITS 390-2005 • Presentation Template: ANSI/INCITS 391-2005 • Target Description: ANSI/INCITS 392-2005 • Resource Description: ANSI/INCITS 393-2005

  3. V2 - Information Technology Access Interfaces Relevance to the work of WG1 • The URC standards define a framework for the specification of user interfaces on top of existing networking platforms • URC framework is neutral to underlying networking platforms • For implementation on a particular networking platform, a binding between the user interface socket and the platform-specific elements needs to be defined • Currently working on bindings for UPnP DCPs • Other candidates: Java/Jini, CHAIN (CECED), Lonworks (Echelon) NOTE: Binding to WG1‘s home interoperability framework seems feasible. Interest in WG1 on a joint effort?

  4. V2 - Information Technology Access Interfaces Current Activities in V2 • U.S. TAG to JTC1 SC35 and its WGs 6-8 • Preparation of Committee Draft of ISO/IEC 24752 (international version of URC standards under JTC1 SC35 WG8) • Spin-off: URC Consortium (outside INCITS) • Promotion and implementation of URC standards • UPnP-specific bindings • Telecon meetings (roughly bi-weekly) NOTE: Requests for subscription to the URC Consortiums mailing list can be directed to me, zimmer@trace.wisc.edu

  5. V2 - Information Technology Access Interfaces References • INCITS V2 Homepage • INCITS Bookstore (ANSI/INCITS standards from V2) • Whitepaper on URC technology • Universal Control Hub and Pluggable User Interfaces • Universal Remote Console Consortium (URCC)
