  9. RtI: Response to InterventionA Regular Education Initiative • Tier 1 – All students are provided with flexible, small group/differentiated instruction using scientific, research based materials. All students are assessed three times a year to ensure that they are progressing within the curriculum. • Tier 2 – If a student is not making progress at the rate we expected, we will develop additional interventions that give them “more and different” reading or math help and monitor their progress more frequently. • Tier 3 - In some cases, additional, targeted supports are necessary. In those instances, we provide increased time in reading or math and add more intensive and/or one-on-one assistance throughout the child’s day. • Parents are a big part of the RtI process. We encourage you to communicate with us as we work with your child throughout the year!

  18. Catch-up Club 2013-2014 • The purpose of Catch-up Club is to provide an opportunity for students to rectify the occasional homework mishap. Students who choose to take advantage of Catch-up Club will do so by signing in at the Catch-up Club table during their lunch period. We encourage students to use the table when appropriate. When the students complete their assignments, they may join the rest of their class. This system is different than what we have done in the past. Instead of reporting to a room to do their homework, they will now be doing this in the lunchroom. • We do not want students to rely on Catch-up Club as a means of getting their assignments complete. We will monitor use of the club, and parents will be notified after a student has used the club more than three times in a month. At that time we will discuss with you a plan to keep homework completed.

  19. Character Counts Expect Excellence Our expectations for student behavior at Chelsea Intermediate School will be one of excellence. All Students will be expected to follow the six pillars of behavior which are as follows: Citizenship, Respectfulness, Responsibility, Trustworthiness, Caring, And Fairness.

  20. Definition of Bullying • Bullying is an action that is repeated and over time from a person or group of people. Most of the time bullying is threatening in nature. In order for this to be considered bullying, there has to be an imbalance of power between the two groups. • Although many interactions that your child has at school may be unpleasant, they may not all be bullying. All interactions that have an adverse effect on your child should be reported and dealt with accordingly. It is, however, very important that students know the difference between an unpleasant incident and an act of bullying.
