  2. Introduction The Mission/Purpose of the FGDC Standards Working Group (SWG) is to “promote the development and implementation of standards in support of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure.”

  3. Introduction Membership: • According to the SWG charter, “Each FGDC subcommittee, working group, and member agency are automatically members of the Standards Working Group and shall designate a representative and, if desired, an alternate.” • The FGDC OS is undertaking a systematic review of FGDC member agency participation in the SWG, Interagency Committee on Standards Policy (ICSP), INCITS L1/U.S. TAG, and OGC.

  4. NGDA Data Themes and Data Sets • The following data themes and data sets fall under the purview of the FGDC Standards Working Group: • The SWG reviews and makes recommendations on standards proposals and standards for any data theme and any data set promoted by the theme lead and/or thematic subcommittee.

  5. Recent Meetings • The SWG last met via teleconference/web meeting on March 20, 2012. • The topic discussed at this meeting was the final draft Coastal and Marine Ecological Classification Standard (CMECS). • The outcome arising from this meeting was that the SWG voted to recommend FGDC endorsement of the final draft CMECS, which the FGDC Steering Committee subsequently endorsed.

  6. Recent Developments/Projects, Cont’d. • Systematic review of FGDC member agency participation in standards activities • Refer to FGDC business update on 2011 and 2012 CAP projects • FGDC Standards WG members are invited to join CAP project progress calls.

  7. Next Meeting • The next meeting of the FGDC Standards WG will be held on Tuesday, September 25 at NOAA Silver Spring AND by teleconference/web meeting. • Topics to be discussed at the next meeting include: • Geospatial Platform architecture of standards. • SDI Cookbook, Chapter 10, Standards Suites for Spatial Data Infrastructure, http://www.gsdidocs.org/GSDIWiki/index.php/Chapter_10. • Updates for FGDC-endorsed standards. • INCITS 145 on hydrologic unit codes • Web Coverage Services

  8. Next Steps • In the coming months, the FGDC Standards Working Group hopes to: • Build its membership. • Advance implementation of core SDI standards in support of the Geospatial Platform. • Advance standards developed by SC/WGs through the FGDC standards process. • Recruit subject matter experts to serve on 2013 CAP proposal review panels.
