Why CHEER? • HE Centres exist around the globe e.g. Japan, Brazil, Germany, USA, Australia; • Ditto Centres for Social Inclusion, Gender Mainstreaming, Affirmative Action; • Sophisticated empirical, theoretical and publishing bases for sociology of school-based education; • Theory developing on globalisation and internationalisation of HE; BUT • Limited opportunities to develop a sociology of higher education

  6. Examples of Our Research • Widening Participation in Higher Education in Ghana and Tanzania: Developing an Equity Scorecard. (ESRC/DfID) • Exploring the under-representation of young people in mathematics and science and strategies for improvements (Marie Curie Foundation) • Improving the experiences of disabled students in Higher Education (Higher Education Academy).
