  2. President’s Report: Dec 2013 • Graduate Student Professional Development Update • CFO and DoS Searches • Financial Advising • Fireside Chat Recap • Chief of Staff Search • UCB Presidents’ Group • Intercollegiate Athletics Chat • Student Information Systems Replacement

Graduate Student Prof. Dev. • CACSSF Proposal was approved. • To fund website to consolidate information on services and events provided on campus • To fund external consultant to do an inventory on services provided on campus and at peer institutions and to provide a strategic plan for UCB • Currently interviewing prospective web developers and consultants • Shooting to begin work in January

CFO and DoS Searches • The campus is looking for a new CFO and a new Dean of students • I am a student representative on both of these searches • Currently advocating for an increased grad focus out of the DoS office • Advocating for direct interaction between student government and the CFO to support student government in planning programs/fees that affect campus finances

  5. Financial Advising • Delegate Matt Goren has brought to light a need for financial advising on campus beyond just funding for degree (ex. Credit, savings, investments, budgeting… etc.) • I’ve been working with Matt to get this project off the ground. • It turns out that Student Affairs has been developing a plan to implement this type of advising on campus. They are now incorporating both ASUC and GA input in that process.

  6. Fireside Chat Recap • The latest fireside chat happened Dec. 2. The topic was Environmental Sustainability • Undergrads and grad students came together and discussed with the Chancellor how the best way for him to support environmental sustainability work on campus is to provide stable recurring funding streams for these projects. • This was seen as the best way for the campus to meet its own sustainability goals and the best way for UCB to be a national leader in support of sustainable policies and education

  7. Chief of Staff Search • The GA is currently engaged in a search for a Chief of Staff that will report to the President of the GA. For information check https://ga.berkeley.edu/node/734

  8. UCB Presidents’ Group • I’ve been reaching out to the presidents of departmental student governments on campus • The goal is to create a group of Presidents that meets once a semester so that departmental student governments can better work with the GA and with each other • So far the response from departmental student government leaders has been overwhelmingly positive • They have generally had little information about the GA and one another and think it would be very helpful to hold these meetings

  9. Intercollegiate Athletics Chat • Intercollegiate Athletics and John Wilton have offered to host a conversation with students regarding the poor graduation rates of student athletes. • Undergraduate reaction to the proposed chat was mixed, but in light of persisting graduate interest I’m looking into scheduling the chat.

  10. SIS Replacement • UCB is currently engaged in replacing the student information systems (telebears, bearfacts, financial aid, etc.) • More information can be found here: http://sis-project.berkeley.edu/ • Part of the process involves contracting third party project teams to build the new systems • I worked with the administration to create internship programs for students associated with building these systems • If you are interested keep a look out next semester for job postings
