Simon Perry's The Public Purse was chosen as a piece in January 1996. • This piece was commissioned as part of council's Percent For Art Program, in which one per cent of council's capital works budget went towards funding public artworks, with the goal of integrating public art into the design and development of the city.

  9. Burke and wills statue The famous burke and wills statue is on the corner of Swanstonstreet and Collins street.

  10. The legend of Wills and Burke In 1860–61, Robert O'Hara Burke and William John Wills led an expedition of 19 men with the intention of crossing Australia from Melbourne to the Gulf of Carpentaria, 3,250 kilometres. They travelled across the Aus, died when back.

  11. That’s the statue Designed by Charles Summers and costing £14,000, it was unveiled on 21 April 1865, four years after the explorers returned to the Dig Tree. Originally on the corner of Collins and Russell Streets. Restored and moved to its present location at the corner of Swanston and Collins Streets in 1994.
