  1. Status & Plans The CBM-MPD STS Consortium for CBM and NICA-MPD Projects Yuri Murin, JINR, Dubna JINR-SINP-KRI-SPbSU-SESRITIIE-BITP-IHEP-GSI 13-th CBM, GSI, March 10, 2009

  2. The Consortium Structure • 7 institutes • 3 countries • GOAL: to organize an East Slavic cluster of teams for production of the CBM and MPD STS • Dubna • GSI, Protvino, Dubna • Dubna, Protvino • Kharkov • St.Petersburg • St.Petersburg • Modules assembly • Components • Ladder assembly • Radiation tests • In-beam tests

  3. The Starting Point 13-th CBM, GSI, March 10, 2009

  4. The Consortium tasks for 2008 • Technical task definition for CBM STS ladder section (ALL) • A pilot batch of Russian-made CBM STS Si sensors (SINP) • Design and production of specific mechanics sample elements (Igolkin@KRI) • Development n-radiation site the CBM STS components (KRI Cyclotron Lab, SPb) • Task Force interaction improvement (ALL) • Infrastructure development of the Consortium sites (KRI,JINR) • Support of microcable production team in Kharkov via JINR-GSI cooperation 13-th CBM, GSI, March 10, 2009 13-th CBM, GSI, March 10, 2009

  5. CBM STS Ladder: Steps to Technical Task Definition (ALL) • To agreeof ladder design • To agree of sensor topology • To agreeof connection to FEE Solution AGREED : flat semi-tiling of sensors on the 3D CF support ladder 13-th CBM, GSI, March 10, 2009 13-th CBM, GSI, March 10, 2009

  6. CBM STS Sensors: Pilot Batch (M.Merkin) • Manufacturer RIMST– Zelenograd, Moscow region • Active area - 40.0 x 60.0 mm2 • Strips pitch on both sides of detectors - 58 µ • Stereo angle - ±7.5degrees • Number of strips on each side - 1024 (8 readout chips) • With bondning/test pads topology suitable for TAB bonding (standard for the whole CBM STS !) Status : Draft of the contract (three mile stones!) is ready, pending on baby-sensors photomask files accomplishment (Merkin). Expected time for the first batch is July 31 13-th CBM, GSI, March 10, 2009

  7. CBM STS: CF sample prototypes (S.Igolkin) 1/2 • Technical drawings of the 4-th station have been accomplished but found not to fit the magnet size ( currently passed for the ANSI calculations) • Jigs and accessories (vacuum oven for the CF ladder processing) are under design and production • Imitating samples for the 3-sensor module and sensor support pins manufactured and tried for the rigidity 13-th CBM, GSI, March 10, 2009

  8. CBM STS: CF sample prototypes (S.Igolkin) 2/2 13-th CBM, GSI, March 10, 2009

  9. Radiation test site @ KRI, SPb,RF (V.Jakovlev & S.Lashaev, KRI)17 MeV pBe->n or DD->n? From 9Be(p,n)9B (g.s.) reaction; From 9Be(p,n)9B* reaction; 9Be + p 4He + 5Li + n – 3.5 MeV 8Be + p + n – 1.7 MeV  2 4He + p + n – 1.6 MeV

  10. Task Force Interaction Improvement 1/3 • To keep the teams having a clear joint goal each year (demonstrator test policy with tests in Protvino) • To develop the infrastructure of the key sites (restoration of rooms and procurement of capital equipment) • To Organize regular work Work Meetings 13-th CBM, GSI, March 10, 2009

  11. Task Force Interaction Improvement 2/3: In-beam tests in Protvino Thanks to Yuri Zaitsev, ITEP for funding! Thanks to Yuri Zaitsev, ITEP for funding! 13-th CBM, GSI, March 10, 2009 13-th CBM, GSI, March 10, 2009

  12. Task Force Interaction Improvement 3/3 2-nd Work Meeting of Consortium in Protvino June, 2008 3-d Work Meeting of Consortium in Sortavala, Karelia, June 1-4, 2009 13-th CBM, GSI, March 10, 2009

  13. 2008 Achievements • The Consortium chain started to operate as a whole • Mechanical design of the ladder almost accomplished • n-irradiation site @KRI 20 MeV cyclotron evolved • Preparations for prototype manufacturing undertaken @ KRI(CF production, bench for the C-I-V measurements), JINR (Assembling&Certification) • First stage of organization of the CBM STS in-beam testing site @ Protvino realized • Additional funding for Kharkov and Dubna teams acquired for 2009 via JINR-GSI scientific cooperation • Grants for the 3-d Work Meeting gained from RF focused funding agencies (ISTC) 13-th CBM, GSI, March 10, 2009

  14. Tasks to remedy in 2009 • The mismatch of the STS size and the clearance of the Magnet • n-XYTERFEBs supply for the JINR team • CF Prepreg supply for Igolkin • Mold manufacturing for Igolkin • Other problems could be resolved locally 13-th CBM, GSI, March 10, 2009

  15. Basic Problem: Keep going on grants only 13-th CBM, GSI, March 10, 2009

  16. 2009 Tasks and their sharing • Demonstrator 1: A 3-sensor module prototype • Organization of in-beam tests in Protvino, November, 2009 • Formulating irradiation plan for KRI Cyclotron team for 2009 • Testing bench with collimated Ru-106 betas @ JINR to operate with n-XYTER FEB read-out • Production of CF parts for the full ladder prototype • Cooling system definition work plan (additional funds application) • Analogue long cable conceptual bench tests based on FEB and existing Demonstrator-0B and n-XYTER FEBs • Attraction of new members to Consortium (Czech Republic for sensor production?) 13-th CBM, GSI, March 10, 2009
