Bitkinin tür adı olan idaeus kelimesi, İda Dağı'ndan gelir (bugünkü adıyla Kaz Dağı). Eski Romalı tarihçi Plinius'a göre, Edremit'in kuzeyinde olan bu dağ, ahududunun anayurdudur.

  1. Bitkinin tür adı olan idaeus kelimesi, İda Dağı'ndan gelir (bugünkü adıyla Kaz Dağı). Eski Romalı tarihçi Plinius'a göre, Edremit'in kuzeyinde olan bu dağ, ahududunun anayurdudur. Gülgiller familyasından, böğürtlenle yakın akraba olan dikenli bir çalıdır. İkinci yılında meyve verdikten sonra bitki kurur. Beyaz küçük çiçekleri kümeler oluşturarak açar, kırmızı meyveleri sonbaharda olgunlaşır. Son 30 yılda sarı, beyaz ve siyah meyveli ahududular da yetiştirilmiştir. Peyzaj’ da bahçede kullanılır. Ayrıca ilaç kozmetik ve gıda sanayisinde de kullanılır. Rubus idaeus (Frambuaz)
