  1. Racism and the Effects of it By Zach Johnston and Dylan Giager

  2. About Racism • Racism is discriminating against a person or a group of people because of their race or ethnic background. • Racism has been in the world for many years and still exists today. • Racism exists all over the world.

  3. History of Racism • One group of racist people, that most people know of is the Klu Klux Klan or KKK for short. • The KKK targeted black people but they didn’t just target black people. They also targeted Jews, Catholics, Asians, and Russians.

  4. Effects of Racism • Some effects of racism could be: • Suicide • Depression • Stress • Chronic Disease • All in all racism is a very bad thing

  5. Why is Racism Bad? • Racism goes against all aspects of life • All people are created equally • It is treating people with disrespect • It hurts people inside and out, physically and mentally • It hurts people’s reputations

  6. Examples of Racism • We read the book Mississippi Trial, 1955 in English class and in the book there was a black boy, named Emmitt Till, that was beaten severely, then strangled and drowned in the river. When they pulled his body out of the river they couldn’t even tell it was him because he was beaten so bad. All of this happened just because he talked to a white woman inappropriately. The men who murdered him were pronounced innocent.

  7. Pictures of Emmett Till • Emmett was so horribly beaten that his own mother couldn’t even recognize him.

  8. Examples of Racism • One of the most known stories of racism is the Holocaust. Before and during World War II, Adolf Hitler was hard at work at destroying the Jewish population in Europe. Hitler created ghettos and work camps for the Jews to stay in, and eventually sent them to death camps. We know that more than 3 million Jews have died and an additional 3 million have gone missing. This is one of the most tragic stories of racism.

  9. Heroes Against Racism • Rosa Parks • Martin Luther King Jr. • Abraham Lincoln

  10. Modern Examples of Racism • Discrimination with jobs • Discrimination within schools • Racists websites, books, stories • Hate groups • Racist TV shows and movies

  11. How to Stop Racism • Truthfully you can’t stop racism because we are humans and humans will be evil from time to time. • The only way to help is to not discriminate against other people and not judge them before you even meet them. • If you do this then other people might see what you’re doing and treat other races with respect and treat them just like you are.
