  10. They Say, We Say 10

  11. NCR – focused on everything except POS • Financials: NCR continues to see weakness in both banking and retail, especially on the hardware side. • Revenue decreased 16 percent from the second quarter of 2008 • NCR quote: "The retail side continues to be challenging in the U.S” • Betting on DVD rental kiosks. Rolling out 7500 new kiosks by mid-2010 • DVD rentals is a new business model for NCR: renting to consumers, sourcing from Hollywood studios • Headquarters move from Ohio to Georgia • Starting up new manufacturing facilities • Moving ATM manufacturing from overseas vendors to new facility in Georgia • Starting up new ATM & R&D manufacturing facility in Brazil • Substantial CapEx requirements: $15K x 7500 new kiosks, manufacturing moves, headquarters move Retail Business is weak. How committed is NCR to POS? Will new DVD rental business model will shift focus from POS/ATM core businesses? Will customer service deteriorate with churn created by corporate move? Are they having problems with outsourced ATM manufacturing? How about POS? Will they still be able to invest in POS?

  12. IBM – laser focus on POS • Commitment to the future • Introduced POS systems in 1973 • Largest part of IBM Global Retail Industry • Over 500 people focused on retail solutions Support, Sales & Development • Patent leader 10 years straight • Industry Leadership • Strategic partner with majority of top retailers worldwide • 65% of the top 100 retailers use IBM POS • Commitment to open standards and reliability • Unmatched Value • “Green” efficiencies and leadership is important new agenda • Systems management is a key component in any retail solution • Retailer need a technology partner capable of looking at the ‘big picture’ and with the resource to produce results with agility and speed Clear leader in POS systems worldwide Invented barcode and Powered USB Delivering low TCO
