Step 1: Drafting Your Future Who Are You? What Do You Like To Do? What Are You Passionate About?
Step 1: Drafting Your Future • Explore your VISA (Values, Interests, Skills and Abilities) and know your outcome. • Explore the Career Library at Career Services. (9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Mon.-Fri.) • Explore on-line resources such as O-Net and the Occupational Outlook Handbook (bls.gov/oco). • Do an assessment test; Myers-Briggs, Strong Interest Inventory.
Step 2: Learn The Trade • Participate in student clubs and organizations. • Do an informational interview and/or job shadow with someone in an area of interest. • Volunteer and build transferable skills. • Explore joining a professional organization in your field as a student member. • Before you graduate get at least one internship.
Step 3: The Preparation (Tip: Pack Your Own Chute, But Always Consult An Expert!)

(Alumni can be a great resource - try the alumni on-line community) • Research organizations and trends in your field. • Schedule a mock interview or participate in Mock Interview Day.

(Publish your resume in the online resume book!) • Set up informational interviews. • Participate in professional associations. • Consider a post graduate internship.
Step 5: The Wiring, The Plumbing, And The Painting • Research the companies to which you are applying. Visit their website, check news sources, professional journals, PR Newswire. (Bonus: This helps in your application ANDinterview!) • Apply, Apply, Apply! (Don’t forget a cover letter and have the Career Center give you feedback!) • Schedule a mock interview and practice interview questions on your own. • Get appropriate interview attire and break it in.
