  2. 1. Salvation by God’s Grace through Faith in Christ • Eph. 2:4-10 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions-- it isby grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

  3. 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10For we are God'sworkmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

  4. Sanctification by God’s Grace through Faith in Christ’s Crucifixion for Me • Gal. 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

  5. 3. Victory over Slavery to Sin through Faith in Christ’s Death and Resurrection • Romans 6:1-14 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ wasraised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

  6. 5 If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin--7 because anyone who has died has been freed from sin. 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him.

  7. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. 11In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin butalive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. 14 For sin shallnot be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.

  8. Where does obedience fit in? • The first major step of obedience is faith and trust in Christ and His completed work on the cross for salvation, sanctification, and victory. • The second major step of obedience is to trust the promises of God in His Word.

  9. The Christian life is a life of • trusting and obeying. • The Christian life is a life of • grace and obedience. • The Christian life is a life of • faith and perseverance. • The Christian life is a life of • relationship and faithfulness.

  10. Col. 2:6, 7 “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord (by faith), continue to live in him (by faith), rooted and built up in him (by faith), strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
