  2. You need to organize information to meet the reader’s needs! Too much of a good thing... • Overloading the client with information may be more dangerous than missing some data • But different users have different needs • And sometimes you need every bit of data for items of interest.

  3. New bis(cycloalkylidene)-ethane dyestuffs are of formula (I): where m = 0 or 1; L = a chemical bond or 1-2C alkylene, opt. with one or two 1-4C alkyl substits.; R1 = H, 1-20C alkyl (opt. subtsyd. by phenyl), (substd.) phenyl, naphthyl or 3-7C cycloalkyl; Y = 0 or H2; X1 = 0; and X2 = 1-8C alkanoyloxy, (substd.) benzoyloxy, 1-6C trialkylsilyloxy, OR1 or NR2R3; R2 and R3 independently = 1-20C alkyl (opt. substd. by phenyl), (substd.) phenyl, naphthyl or 3-7C cycloalkyl; or NR2R3 = a 5- or 6-membered satd. heterocycle, opt. with other hetero-atoms; or one of R2 and R3 = H; or X1X2 = -N-Q-Z; Z = O, S or NR2; Q = a 5-6-membered satd. or aromatic carbo- or heterocycle, with N and Z in adjacent ring positions. The prepn. of (I) (not claimed) is described in the text and examples (see below). • L = a chemical bond or prop-2-ylidene; m = O; R2 = H, 1-10C alkyl (opt. substd. by phenyl), phenyl or naphthyl; Q = a benzene ring with 1-4 R4 substits.; R4 = 1-10C alkyl, 1-10C alkoxy, NO2, NH2, 1-4C mono- or dialkylamino, pyrrolidino, piperidino, morpholino, piperazino, N-(1-4 C alkyl)piperazino or halogen. • R2 and R3 = H; or X1X2 = -N-Q-Z; Z = O, S or NR2; Q = a 5-6-membered satd. or aromatic carbo- or heterocycle, with N and Z in adjacent ring positions.
